DOES RACISM STILL EXIST. YOU BE THE JUDGE, READ TILL THE END

This scene took place on a British Airways flight between Johannesburg,South Africa & London..

A white woman, about 50 years old, was seated next to a black man.
Very disturbed by this, she called the air hostess. "You obviously do
not see it then?" she asked. "You placed me next to a black man. I didnot
agree to sit next to someone from such a repugnant group. Give me an
alternative seat." "Be calm please," the hostess replied."Almost all the places on this flight are taken. I will go to see if another place is available." The hostess went away & then came back a few minutes later."Madam, just as I thought, there are no other available seats in Economy Class. I spoke to the captain & he informed me that there is also no seat in Business Class. All the same, we still have one place in First Class." Before the woman could say anything, the hostess continued."It is not usual for our company to permit someone from Economy Class to sit in First Class. However, given the circumstances, the captain feels that it would be scandalous to make someone sit next to someone so disgusting." She turned to the black guy, & said, "Therefore, Sir, if you would like to,please collect your hand luggage, a seat awaits you in First Class." At that moment, the other passengers, who'd been shocked by what they had just witnessed, stood up & applauded. This is a true story. If you are against racism, please send this to all your friends; please do not delete it without sending it to at least 1 person. WELL DONE, British Airways

God is good...
All the time...

May be an untrue story but racism is definitely still alive.

Some jerk at my office made a comment to me at the Christmas Party 2 years ago. He was looking for his something in his pocket and his money was wadded up in small bundles. He laughed and said "that's my n*gg*r money". He didn't know my ethinicity at the time.

The more pathetic thing is that the 15 other people in the room who DID know didn't say a word. :no

Gotta love ignorant people.

Unfortunatelly, racism does still exist, but it also exists against other people too-I've been discriminated against because I"M WHITE, so I know it can go any way.

:yes ITA! As a matter of fact, it just happened to me last week with regards to a State Grant.

And for the record, I posted the Snopes thing so no one would get all riled up over a story that was an urban legend, apparently it did not work. :oogle

Few things irritate me more than hard-lined zealots (about ANY topic) and hard-lined ignorance (about ANY topic). This is one of those topics that can easily push my buttons - not because it's a heated debate, but because people are so opinionated on it, they rarely listen to reason. As long as mankind is capable of discrimination, we're going to find it in every day life.

Indeed.. Except now, the only acceptable hate crime is Christian bashing, and the only acceptable racism is against whites..

yep that's true unfortunately. i don't see why it is okay to be racist against the "majority" when we are just about all mixed anyway unless you get a pedigree beforehand.

I think racism is kept alive and strong by people who post threads like this.. I remember when someone here posted something about being proud to be white, they got railed, and the post was locked...

My coworker told me that an older lady was shopping and she came up to the register and said that she hadn't been in for quite a while. She proceeds to say that there sure are a lot of "colored" people in the store nowadays and wanted to know how does he watch them all. I cracked up over that one. People are so ignorant.

I don't think the OP meant it like that at all. Racism is just a hard topic all the way around. No matter what you do or say, someone will always be offended. Doesn't matter what ethnicity, race, color, religion you are.

I think that regardless of whether or not the story is true, it can serve as a good example of how people SHOULD react when confronted by a situation like the one in the story.

I think one of the biggest problems with racism is that we tolerate too much of it. If more people would stand up and object, pigs like this woman might learn their lesson. Nothing like a little public humiliation to keep someone in line. :mrgreen:mrgreen:mrgreen

I recently ended a friendship with someone because I wasn't willing to tolerate his racist tendencies. He flipped out on me when he found out that DB wasn't 100% white. :censored:censored

After spending a good hour or so trying to talk some sense into him, I gave up. He lost a good friend, I hope that serves as enough of a lesson for him to question himself. :no:no:no

That "Blue Collar Comedy" group has been doing it for years. Though, come to think of it, I've yet to see a skit from them that even comes close to touching anything that may be construed as controversial - but I haven't watched all their acts.

I might be assuming something wrongly but I think Jay Leno is White and (I'm honest here, not trying to make a joke)...

Because whether its right or wrong people feel safe/Okay making fun of groups they belong to.

Catholics make fun of Catholics, Whites of Whites, Latinos of Latinos, Blacks of Blacks, Asians of Asians, the list could go on forever.

Propogation of hatred and bias is not limited to members of opposing demographics. There is only ONE purely safe person on this planet to make fun of, and that's yourself.

Umm first of all, the flights were between Johannesburg & London. I know alot of people from South Africa and they are very racist when it comes to blacks. They call them Kaffas and all sorts of horrible names. So it dosn't surprise me whatsoever that this happened, it happens every day.. especially in South Africa. I think this stems from the elder generations. It's those who have grown up and been told to believe this who are going to still believe this.

Really sad isn't it? But, this story is just brilliant, because it shows that they thought HER to be disgusting instead of HIM.. and people were clapping because his dignity was restored. This would not have been the case 30 years ago in South Africa.

Grudges are like poison. Good to see people who think for themselves instead of just believing what they hear or are told.

Racism is alive and well everywhere. I was in Weehawken, NJ for 4 days in July for my family reunion. Most of my family was not spoken to because of their complexion. I was only spoken to if I was not with my family members because I honestly don't look black. This happened the entire time we were in NJ at our hotel. It's quite disturbing and as I spoke with my mother while I was there, she made me realize that no matter how much society has supposedly changed, people and their way of thinking hasn't. :screwy

I agree no offense is taken unless its coming from someone not belonging to the group being "JOKED" about - and if you do take offense to it when the person telling the joke belongs to that group and in a sence is joking about him/herself then its time to lighten up and get a sence of humor -

I get offended by anyone who tells a cruel joke just to be mean and because they truley feel that way no matter what race (or any other thing people cant help) it be about.

But too many people want to look for something to bitch about if it is meant just to be in good humor and not meant to be offensive If the joke is funny LAUGH quit trying to find the negitive in it and get a sence of humor.
