View Full Version : Online classes
mclarke 07-28-2007, 08:08 PM Does anyone take any online classes? If so what degree and how do you like it. I tried one class only and it was all papers and blogs. I hate writing papers. I am thinking of taking a health care administration degree but I am unsure. The cost is alot and I am still unsure I patience. Any suggestions?
Michelle
I go to Park University and take all my classes online. My degree is in Management and I actually prefer online. It works around my schedule. It can be difficult with math classes and such, but it is nicer to not have to be somewhere at a certain time for x amount of hours. As far as papers go, most classes require them...
MarineWifey29 07-28-2007, 09:24 PM I am also thinking about getting my BA in Health Administration. With the classes I"m doing for the Nursing & 3 more Finance classes, I"ll be done with the pre-req's to transfer to San Bernadino (CSU). However, I"m kinda stuck because we are only going to be in San Diego for 2 hours. We aren't sure where we will go afterwards so I can't even get my BSN in Nursing at SDSU because of it. I don't want to start the Nursing Program, then find we have move "again"..lol. So for now I've also been searching online schools in Health Administration and so far, nothing yet. If you find one, let me know! Carmen
mclarke 07-28-2007, 11:21 PM I spoke with Kaplan Education they started talking about over $50,000 for a BS in Healthcare admin...they wouldnt even let me talk to an academic advisor to see how many credits they will transfer so the fee would be less. It wont cost as much if you have all the pre-reqs and tx 60 credits over. then the lady kept calling and emailing me about 3-4 times a day until I started ignoring her. even after I told her we were shopping around. I am going to check out UOP they have 2. I am trying to go with schools that I have heard of. So Ms MarineWifer29, you are going to be in San Diego for 2 hours or 2 years? We are going to be in Monterey for 2 years and their is nothing up there where I can get a BSN so I am looking at something else also. I am tired of nursing and want to get off the floor and behind a desk before I get to old to transition.
define 07-28-2007, 11:30 PM I (L) online classes, I do much better in them because I hate having to go to class and sit there for x amount of hours a day x times a week. I don't have the attention span for it. :(
I've taken online classes through a local community college. All of the classes were general education. However, I'm going to campus for the rest of my classes to finish college and receive my degree.
kori06 07-28-2007, 11:38 PM I've taken a history class online and I'm taking chemstry and evolutionary biology online this summer thru Ohio State!
I recommend taking online classes if you have a busy schedule, but you do have to stay on top of things!
Not all of them are full of writing and things. Both of my science classes are simply reading the text and then taking online exams over the material!
I LOVE THEM!!! =)

LOL.. yea 2 hours huh..lol.. i wish, that way i can figure out what he heck to do with my schooling. I meant 2 years though or 2 1/2. My mind and what I type aren't always n'sync with one another..lol. It gets kinda fustrating when you don't know where the heck you'll end up or move to in a few years. But I sure do'nt want to sit home and do nothing though. I did that the first 3 years and I regret not going to school then. Plus, I qualifed for the BOGG waiver in California so I get my tution paid for. I def. would be stupid not to take advantage of that cuz come next year, I am almost certain we won't qualify. 50,000 G's for Health Administration? WOW, that's crazy. Going to a public university would be alot cheaper, won't it? Are you already a Nurse? I"m thinking of just doing all my transfer classes for a BSN anyways, get those chemistry classes done (I think I have another 3 to do), then when we move back to 29 palms, i can apply for the RN program. After that, where ever we go, i can concentrate on my BSN, plus I"ll have all my classes done and it would be easier to transition from RN to BSN anywhere, even online. Of course this is only wishful thinking but I have to hold on to something..lol...:vent

I take Online classes to. But what sucks is this San Diego City College requries Prereq. classes before you can take a certan class. At my previous college it wasn't really an issue with my Chemistry class. But now I have to take intro to chem, general chemistry, then I can take Organic Chemistry. That's a 1 1/2 right there ..... urggg it sucks. At my previous college, I took Fundamentals of Chemistry, then I could take Organic Chemistry. But thanks to the Marines we have to move. Online classes are great though, I think half of my AA degree is through online courses. I've saved tons of daycare money and it worked well with my schedule too. The only downfall are those timed exams. If it says 60 minutes, then dang, you only have 60 minutes to answer those questions..lol.. Oh, then once I missed a Midterm because of issues out of my control. The Prof. was such a dick and would't let me take it again unless I had like military "orders" or something..lol. I was like wtf? Luckily, I passed the class with a C but still I was pist over a C since I"m always getting B's and A's. Even then, I was thankful I didn't get an F I guess..lol. Carmen

I went to Kaplan for a year... it was my first online college. I don't recommend it. I had a different academic advisor every week and noone could help me out when I needed it. My sister still goes there but I transfered to Park. I don't know if they have healthcare or anything online but you can look into it. www.park.edu They also offer classes on some Air Force bases so you can look into that too....
I took an online class through my college (that I normally go to in person full-time). It cost me $600 just for that one class because I needed to take 2 classes to get financial aid. I liked it though, I took it last summer. It was Adolescent Psychology
terpsichore 07-29-2007, 07:52 PM i took some online class in real estate and real estate finance at a local community college (not a degree program, just personal enrichment) and i really enjoyed them. it was great to be able to make my own schedule.
juliern 08-01-2007, 09:59 AM I do not recommend Kaplan either. I took a forensic nursing course there and wasn't impressed at all!
I have done primarily online classes for the past years. I started out in 1998 with an ADN going to class and have progressed up through nursing doing all online classes. With a family and working as a nurse, I didn't have the time to go to classes. In online classes it seems that you have more "busy" work but it's worth it to me to not have to sit through a class. I think they are a bit more expensive. I'm getting ready to apply for a DNP program and it'll all be online through Univ of South Alabama. To me, if there were not online classes available now, I wouldn't have come close to the point I am at.
Again, I DO NOT recommend Kaplan though!
