View Full Version : Quick Question regarding Awards!

Just have a question that I'm curious about.

I think I remember us agreeing that a participant can only with one category, correct? So as to be fair to all and not have one person sweep the boards, which seeems fair to me.

So, if someone is winning more than one category, how will it be determined which category they win? Will it be the category they are winning by the most?

Thanks poll posters!! :)

It seems like that person should get the SOS Award for the one they won with the most votes.

Like if they won Best Smile with 79 votes, Most Artistic with 54 votes and Great Debator with 89 points, the should only win Great Debator, and then the other categories will go to the person in 2nd place.

K. I wasn't sure if it would be like that or be like:

Debator, has 89, next person has 73
Artistic, has 60, next person has like 8 so they would get artistic because of percentage of votes.

I dunno if that made sense :rofl

Well Nicole hasn't been on so I wasn't able to talk to her. That is what I was thinking of doing. The problem would be lets say a person got the highest in one category so they won that one. The other one they should have won goes to the second place winner. With me so far lol... ok if that person who wins for the second place is also the winner of another award that is when it will get tricky. Either way no one will be winning 2 awards and I'm sure we will figure it out. :)

To me, if you get it then you get it. Those people voted and they will feel the vote was wasted if their person didn't win.

Yeah, but then if one person wins more than one, it's not really fair :dunno

I think it should be the one that the participant is winning by the MOST, kwim?

Percentage-wise or something...

Like, if I am winning by only a few on one category, but sweeping another, I should be awarded the one I swept, does that make sense?

I really don't want to have more than one award, that doesn't feel fair to me and I'm SURE others can agree that people would be upset if one person had a bunch of awards.

yeah but that's a ton of votes that are being ignored. What if #2 wasn't their second choice? There should be a re-vote in my opinion.

This is just for fun and I like it that more people get an award than only a few with more than one award each. It's not like we are voting for the president or something and people are going to get pissed because the person they voted for didn't win. :teehee Besides it's not like we are taking the winner and not giving them any awards... they are still getting an award just not all of them.

I guess we could always make a poll and see if more people want the winners to get all their awards (might be easier we don't have to deal with the second place thing) or if a person should only have one award each. :shrug Either way no matter what we will never be able to please everyone.

Eh, no worries. I was just thinking that if 50-70 people vote for the top person then that's a whole bunch of votes to just throw away. I work at the local Circuit Clerk's office though so I have a pretty strong opinion about votes and how they should count, lol... We have run-off.

I can understand that but at the same time this isn't a really important thing that will impact peoples lives. :dunno It was supposed to be just for fun but now if feels like people are taking it way to seriously. :shrug

I'm sorry, I just don't think that wanting the person who is voted the winner to win is being "too serious". Behind every vote is a person/member who took the time to click on who they wanted. I'm not trying to be "too serious" just stating that it is pointless to vote if the vote doesn't mean anything.

It is taking it too seriously if it's only a fun thing and all the people actually getting the awards don't seem to care but you do. We could have easily just made it where only the surveys counted and got the winners right from that. Instead we decided to be nice and make a poll which we didn't have to do. The outcome would have been different if we did it that way but atleast no one could complain. So really people are taking it way to seriously it is supposed to be a FUN thing and now I really feel like saying who cares already and giving all the people in the poll the award lol. I just wish people would let it go... as long as the people winning the awards don't mind then I think it's fine. But people can keep complaining if they want it just makes it so there wont be another awards next time because it's too much of a problem.

Tawny suggested it because it would give more than 1 person a prize and allow someone else to win something. What if the same person was in each category and won the whole sos awards, would you honestly just want 1 winner?'

I can see the point of wanting the votes to count, but in all actuality some of the people getting voted for only had one vote in the survey. I think people are taking the thing too seriously and i wanted to make it fun. Spread the awards around rather than just 1 person getting like 5. Right now im tempted to just through all the votes out and use the winners from the survey. I wanted the polls so the majority of the boards can vote for their winner. But if i just used the winers of the survey am i not just throwing votes out since its not the majority of the board?

I agree with this.

I'm sorry that the coordinators are getting so much flak for this :( It would be horrible if people were discouraged from doing similar things in the future for fear of a backlash.

I agree. It probably took hours to count up all the votes, make the blinkies, create the surveys, etc. And now having to deal with people trying to tell them how to run it.

Nicole you win it all in my book..after all, I wouldn't be on this site if it weren't for you my dear!! :giggle

If you didn't want anyone's opinion on it then don't ask. There is a poll and a thread on it created by those who did the survey to find out what people think but now they don't care and don't wanna hear it? :puzz

I never said that i didn't want to hear it, if i oppose someone doe that mean i dont want to hear it? I was stating why i wanted different people to win, no different than the other stating why to just use the winner. But then again wait :refuse what there was more than one choice in the poll?

Can y'all take this drama to another thread? I am tired of my threads ending up with people saying I'm starting drama. I asked the question because I wanted to know which of the categories a multiple nominated participant would win :sigh
