View Full Version : VA Restaurant Food/Sales Tax
Victoria 08-01-2007, 12:43 AM Can anyone tell me why it's over 10%?!? This is crazy!!! It's like 10.5%. We went to one restaurant and they said the rate was 9.5% but it was coming up at 10.5%. And here I though CA's tax of 7.75% was high enough. :(
Looks like we won't be eating OUT but once a month at this rate. :(
MelissaMc424 08-01-2007, 12:44 AM That's insane!
Erika 08-01-2007, 12:54 AM Wow, is it really that high? I've never really paid attention, but we don't eat out very often either...
Victoria 08-01-2007, 12:58 AM Yeah it is!!!!
I got E a chicken nugget meal at Wendy's. The subtotal was $2.99 and the tax was $0.31

Erika 08-01-2007, 01:10 AM I can't believe I've never noticed it being that high. In my hometown sales tax is 9%, so I guess it isn't too big of a difference. 10.5% is ridiculous. :no

Yea, thanks so much for spoiling my "dinning out" experience! :lmao Now my cheap butt will have to look at the check everytime we go. :lmao ;)
Victoria 08-01-2007, 09:34 AM BAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHA!!!!!
Your dinning experience will now be resorted to "on base." HAHA!!!
Nicole1788 08-01-2007, 09:38 AM Pa doesnt have sales tax on food so i was confused when i moved down here, only if you went somewhere to eat or bought prepared food. Also the sales tax is only 6%
Jennygirl 08-01-2007, 09:52 AM Our sales tax is like 9.5 here or something...Yeah it sucks, but what can ya do...So we dont tend to pay attention to it...But the good thing is that there is no state taxes taken from our checks so that Ill pay the higher taxes.
JulieM 08-01-2007, 10:03 AM VaBeach doesn't do the stickers anymore.

Erika 08-01-2007, 03:09 PM I went to CiCi's today for lunch and had to break out my calculator on the phone to figure how much sales tax I paid. It was over 10% already. :no At least I wanted until after I ate so I could still enjoy my food. :giggle
goldilockz 08-01-2007, 03:10 PM Yep, that's Virginia for ya. Greedy and money hungry everywhere you go.

Wow.. I thought our 8.9 across the water was bad.. Not much more but over 9 seems worse.
Pebbles 08-01-2007, 03:51 PM That's nuts!

We're enjoying ourselves MUCH BETTER than when in Hawaii!!!!! :D We did move in on the 1st. I'd post pics, but we don't have our stuff yet, therefore the pics would look like a campsite...LMAO!!! Our HHG's get delivered on Monday! I can't wait to have my own bed back with my memory foam mattress topper that I've missed for almost 4 months. I'm gonna sleep like a baby when it comes...HAHA!!!
Victoria 08-03-2007, 12:12 PM I went to CiCi's today for lunch and had to break out my calculator on the phone to figure how much sales tax I paid. It was over 10% already. :no At least I wanted until after I ate so I could still enjoy my food. :giggle
LOL!!! :giggle
*Dawn* 08-03-2007, 12:16 PM damn thats high...thats why I love CO here I only pay 3.9 where i'm at!
JudyB 08-03-2007, 12:46 PM If I remember correctly they raised the food tax when they lowered the grocery tax on non-prepared foods 3 years ago....the grocery tax is 2%....it used the the regular 5% plus and added tax for food on top. Little improvements here and there....I can tell you though that we live well within our means in VA compared to when we were in Texs...sales tax was higher, electricity cost more, and I swear some of the things I usually bought here in VA was higher priced to.
But then again I am biased.....I love my state:grin:
