View Full Version : VBAC.....or not?
*Crystal* 08-02-2007, 04:40 PM Since arriving in Lemoore Ive been to the Dr twice and they have been talking to me about VBAC. I dont know what to think about this and if I should even do it. I know Having a vaginal birth would be so much easier to recover from and all that but I dont feel like I would want to go through hours of labor again and end up back in the operating room. What would you do if given the option??
HEIDI 08-02-2007, 05:13 PM IMO you should try a VABC.... I did it with my dd and it was an amazing experience.

Im just scared of being back in the situation I was with DD. I pushed for an hour with her and she ended up being too big to fit through my pelvis and she was only 7 pounds......Odds are, I wont be having a baby smaller than that. :scared
do what YOU think will be best for you, your body, and the baby :)
good luck, girl!!
amandalaine 08-02-2007, 05:58 PM I think that since my C-Section was scheduled with Preston(he was big) and I didn't even go into labor, it's a high possibility that I will try a VBAC if things look favorable on the next baby. If they baby stays high like Preston did, then I will probably go on with a C-Section.
*Crystal* 08-02-2007, 06:06 PM Im really leaning towards C-section but its a BIG possibility that DH will be leaving for a month two weeks after the surgery and Ill be alone. So thats whats making me think about the VBAC. Ill have a 20 month old and a newborn all alone. Blah, the Drs are getting my medical records from DDs to see if I was even cut right to have a VBAC. Im so scared.

Totally agree! If you feel uneasy about it, dont do it.
I can say after having ANOTHER c section, if I could rewind a few weeks ago, I would have had her vaginally. FOR SURE! This c section (non emergency) was horrible. I would say that my emergency one was WAY better than this one!
Personally, I would take the VBAC.

How was it horrible?? Ive heard planned C-sections are way easier than emergency ones...would you mind telling me? You could PM me or do it in here!
mara_jade81 08-02-2007, 08:19 PM I would try a VBAC... Well I DID try a VBAC :lol It was awesome! And Hayden was 8lbs 11oz, did it all natural.
PrincessBlue505 08-03-2007, 12:17 AM Personally, I think the risk of rupturing the old incision is too high making VBACs too dangerous. I will not attempt it when we have more kids.
When I had DD by c-section in Maine, my doctor told me that in the whole state of Maine, there was only one hospital still willing to do VBACS-the rest wouldn't touch them as they deemed them too dangerous too attempt.
Mine was a scheduled one but my water broke and I went into labor a couple hours before I was scheduled. So I labored for 17 hours but DD was too big. Neither of us was in any danger, so it wasn't an emergency one-it was pretty relaxed and was more like a postponed scheduled c-section. Anyway, DH was deployed at the time and my mom could only stay for 2 weeks to help. At the end of the 2 weeks, I was driving again and could care for DD ok by myself. I just made sure to follow their recommendations of only going up and down the stairs once a day and to move around a lot the first 6 weeks. Make sure to check the incision daily, keep it clean, etc. It went fine and I have little fear about my next one (I say little because I'm not naive, it is a major surgery and there's also risk of infection)....

Well, I was SUPPOSE to have a planned section, but she wanted to come 5 weeks early :wink
But it wasnt an emergency either. Just labor, and my choice :(
It was rough though. It felt so different than the first one, I was more scared, it was more intense and the healing SUCKED. I was home for a only two days before I was admitted back into the hospital for a SEVERE infection. If I would have just did the VBAC things would have been great :lol
Not to mention that more kids in my future have to be carefully planned because of having the two c sections :(
MIKOSWIFEY 08-03-2007, 02:29 AM If we have another, I will do a VBAC. C-section recovery is just too hard considering I already have at least one kid to care for, I will need to be able to be up and around.

Do some research. It shows that a VBAC is actually no more dangerous than another c-section. There is 1% chance or less of a uterine rupture when having a VBAC. Only in certain cases do they typically not want you to have a VBAC, more and more doctors are promoting them. I honestly believe the only reason doctors will not promote a VBAC is because 1. They make more money from a c-section and 2. They can schedule a c-section. But statistically VBACs are no more dangerous than c-sections and research is showing they are actually safer.
Not trying to sound snotty, I just did research before I had mine. They really are not dangerous.

Here's a link with info.
usnkarebear 08-03-2007, 02:31 PM When we get pregnant with our next child I plan on trying for my 2nd VBAC! DD was an attempted (but unsuccessful) VBAC. After 17hrs. of hard labor she was decellerating with every contraction so my midwife and I discussed our options (she was willing to continue if that was what I wanted) and I opted to go ahead and take her by c-section! I do plan on finding a dr who is willing to assist me in trying for another VBAC when we get the news that we are pregnant again!!! DH and I have already discussed that if the MTF won't stand behind our decision then we will switch to standard and find a DR out in town!! Just research and make the decision that is best suited for you and your family!!! Talk to different drs and get professional opinions!!! Good luck with your decision!!!

SOOOOOOOOOOO true!
The doctors where trying hard to talk me into going vaginal. I should have listened :sadeyes The only reason I didnt listen is because when I went in I was already 4cm dialated, then a hour later I was 6. It was moving so fast and I was so early that I was freaked and couldnt think straight. We didnt even have time to call my regular Dr. :( I had my mind set on having the section that I said no to vaginal and go ahead with the section. They tried so hard though to talk me out of it. :worried
*Crystal* 08-03-2007, 02:38 PM Thanks for all the info, Ill talk to DH and our Drs more and decide whats best for us......Im just so scared of either I dont know what I feel is best!
Kaymara 08-03-2007, 10:57 PM I was not a candidate for a vbac. But I was scared of the thought. Mainly because of the hours of labor only to end up a sectiona gain scared me. My recovery from my scheduled section was cake compared to the first. Probably because I didnt have all the effects of labor and pushing on top of the section
Just read alot and do what you feel is best. G'luck
Miss B Hav'n 08-03-2007, 11:11 PM My plan with DS was to attempt a VBAC with a repeat c/s being a last resort. As it turned out, though, he followed in DD's footsteps and grew large enough (she was 10 lbs 8 oz, he was 10 lbs 12 oz) that my provider decided that it was too risky to go ahead with the VBAC and we ended up with a scheduled c/s.
Ashnbri 08-05-2007, 05:07 PM I have the option as well...but have no idea which I will do...For me I am more worried of vaginal being too painful and more recovery. My C section was less painful and I was up and feeling pretty good as soon as i got in the recovery room. :dunno what I would decide. But I am leaning towards another C sect.
dollface 08-06-2007, 12:00 PM I had a VBAC with my second child and was great. I was up and moving around right away. With my third...I opted for a c-section because my physician was not as confident in the procedure as I had hoped she would be. The less than 1% risk was enough to scare me...lol. The c-section went very quickly and very smooth...my incision was done in the exact same spot as my first so nothing looks different. I stayed in the hospital for 4 days so when I came home...I was moving around ok. I felt pretty good after about the 2nd or 3rd day home. It was easier having dh home with me but I would have been fine without him there. It just depends on how quickly you recover and the skill of your OB.
missfefe 08-07-2007, 02:55 AM I am definitely gonna try when I have my second child.
I don't want to go through 12 hrs of labor again to just have an emergency C-section... but I wanna try everything before having to have another one. I would love to experience giving birth vaginally.
Cherrish 08-07-2007, 06:35 AM I don't know if you remember or not, but I wanted to try for a VBAC and was told that I wasn't going to be able to, because my OB thought that my pelvic area was too small to pass a full term baby.
2 weeks before my due date, they though she was going to be on the small side, so they decided to let me try and and scheduled me for an induction the following Monday.
I ended up going into labor with her about 2 hours later...afte having been in labor for almost 24 hours by the time the contractions got unbearable, I elected to just go ahead for the C-section...I just couldn't see myself going through a long labor like I had with my oldest daughter, only to end up in the operating room again. Plus I was in back labor, so I was in a lot of pain.
In the end, I'm glad I did the C-section, because Kaylhnn ended up being bigger than Sabreena was by almost a whole pound, and I definitley wouldn't have been able to push her out. And my recovery was suprisingly very easy this time, so I'm happy.
