View Full Version : Ok need help
Kaymara 03-06-2006, 07:41 AM Ethan has never had a stomache virus before and he does now. He woke at 4am not feeling well. He just projectile vomited ALL over everything and me. Im trying to get him to sip on water but how in the heck do I make sure he stays hydrated? Obviously I need to count his diapers and keep offering him fluids. Should I just stick to water? I emailed his Dr and am waiting to find out a response. I am trying to avoiud taking him in because it is cold and snow all over outside. And I dont want to spread this. BUT if I do need to take him in or I dont hear back from his Dr obviously I will asap
IgglesmumX2 03-06-2006, 07:42 AM Try some pedialyte. Also, if he doesn't want to drink you can try popsicles and jello and stuff like that...anything high in water content will help.
Kaymara 03-06-2006, 07:44 AM Thanks. I have some pedilyte which he hates and popsicles. No jello tho. I guess we could run and grab some. He almost seems like he feels better now that he rid his sytem of everything. Poor guy. He was acting funny last night. I guess he was starting to feel yucky
IgglesmumX2 03-06-2006, 07:45 AM Yeah sometimes all it takes is a great puke!! :lmao
Kaymara 03-06-2006, 08:00 AM Well he doesnt like grape pedialyte. I will have to run to the store and get the plain. He doesnt get juice so that might be why he doesnmt like this. He has never been into fruit etc.
Thanks again
Chrissie 03-06-2006, 08:27 AM I'm sorry Kristi, I hope he feels better! My kids would only drink the fruit punch pedialyte and now they wont drink it at all. I give them water and gatorade when they are sick and pretty much stick to the brat diet for a day or two.
maybe it was something he ate? im sorry he doesnt feel very good kristi. i hope it doesnt last all day. will he eat saltine crackers?

No he's sick. His face was clammy and pale white. And now my tummy is really quesy. So I think its something going around. He did keep a little toast down so far.
Thanks all. Gonna go nurse E and my own belly :ohno
Caimbrie 03-06-2006, 11:39 AM If he's having trouble keeping anything down use a straw to give him little bits of water at a time so it doens't make him throw up.
Poor little guy :(
Brandi 03-06-2006, 12:04 PM definitely no milk or juice. Either water, pedilalyte or gatorade are good. I'd stay away from all foods except dry toast, saltine crackers and chicken broth/soup. Very little bits at a time. Sorry you are feeling bad. Now I'm scared we're going to get it if it's going around. We defintiely do NOT need that right now. UGH :tears

Yeah Rod said its going around :neutral He wont drink pedialyte so is just water ok? He'll drink that. And he kept his toast down. He actually seems better now. Thei am when he woke he was coughing and dry heaving and then projetile vomited everywhere and since then seems still "off" a bit but MUCH better
Brandi 03-06-2006, 12:16 PM I'm PMing you on Yahoo....
Caimbrie 03-06-2006, 12:44 PM I was told by a doc plain water was better than gatorade because gatorade has so much sugar... but I don't know for sure of course lol

Normally, if the child isn't sick, that's true. I was giving Jaxon gatorade when he was first learning to use the sippy and his doctor discouraged it because he was alreadya big boy.. obviously not in need of extra calories.
However, when you've got a sick baby who's dehydrated from throwing up up, the electrolytes in gatorade will help replenish the salts and sugars that they need and have lost. I think the only exception to this is if the gatorade seems to be making the child's diarrhea worse, which is sometimes possible. Then water is better because obviously the gatorade is doing no good if it's going right through them. If the diarrhea doesn't get worse with the gatorade, then that's usually best until the child can stop throwing up.
Caimbrie 03-06-2006, 01:22 PM Now that I think of it, I was told not to give them gatorate when they had diarrhea because the sugar can make it worse.
mara_jade81 03-06-2006, 02:01 PM i hope he feels better soon kristi. if he's drinking water that's great!
Kellie 03-06-2006, 02:36 PM I'm sorry Kristi. I hope he feels better soon. We just went through this 3 weeks ago,and I gave Ashtin and Gavin Gatorade. I also made gatorade slushes. Ashtin would nibble a little bit on crackers and that was it. I was also told by the school nurse that they would want you to bring your child in if your child couldn't keep anything down for 15 hours.
If it get's realy bad the doc might give him somthing, but I'm not sure if he's too young or not.
And it is going around a total of 9 of my family members got the stomach flu in a span of a week.
