View Full Version : Allowance ?
BLBnJVB3 08-03-2007, 05:05 PM We're trying to figure out what is appropriate to give Breanna each week. She doesn't have a set chore list so that is making it hard. She has to pick up her room and the play room every day in order to keep her privileges. After that if she does something we'll pay her. So far this week she has helped me wash the walls, clean the outside of the trash can, dust the living room tables, and wash the bottom cupboards and refrigerator in the kitchen. So this is my question: For those that pay their kids an allowance; how much do they get, what chores do they do, and how old are they? Ok, that is more than one. :lol Oh, and if anyone wants to know Breanna is 6. TIA
On a side note she has been trying to bargain her price with us. She started at $10. :giggle

I know when I was younger I never really had a "set" chore list either, but as long as I was helping with the house chores and such then my parents would give me like 10/week. (when I was 6 it was probably like 6/week they liked to do the thats how old you are that how much you get) by the time i was like 13/14 I was getting like 15-20/week. I hope that kinda helps....:hehe
MichelleB 08-03-2007, 05:10 PM Something my mom did that I think is a great idea, is using tokens. She just used poker chips and alloted each color a value. Everytime I did a chore or helped her with something she would give me however many tokens she though the chore was worth. At the end of the week, we added them up and that was my allowence.

I am doing something very similar with my oldest Alexis. Only she does not get the money every week. She saves it for when she wants to spend money while we are out. She has to work hard though because each point is worth a penny. She gets them for doing everyday things like making her bed and getting dressed (1 point each) or because I really need her help (points will be assigned by job quality but never less than 3 points). This way I can reward her for doing extra things as often as I like and she is also more willing to do things on her own jsut because she wants more points.:D

Good Idea! :thumbsup

That is a creative idea
justkristin 08-03-2007, 06:20 PM I do a similar system...I made this Clean Up Chart:
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o32/skrappinmom/cleanupchart.jpg
Each time they do one of their chores or something extra - they get a check...each check is worth 50 cents. We have tried lots of different things, but this seems to work best for us. I also keep track of their money in their own little notebooks so they know how much they have at a given time. If they really start to rack up some bucks I convince them to put some in their bank accounts "to buy that car when they are 16"
BLBnJVB3 08-04-2007, 09:30 AM Thanks ladies.
I really like that idea of tokens/points. That way she'll have to work for how much she wants to get instead of just getting a set amount each week for no matter how little or much she does.
I really appreciate your help. Oh, Kristin I love your chart. Very nice.
Dr. K 08-04-2007, 10:17 AM For each year they are, they get $1.
So since she's 6... a $6 allowance each week. That way as they get older and can help with more chores, they get a "raise" for that extra work.

I agree with this idea
Jennygirl 08-04-2007, 10:25 AM Our friends have a daughter who has a list of assorted chores that she has to do...Each is worth something...like making her bed..
