Soldier guilty of rape, murder of Iraqi girl

BREAKING NEWS

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. - A military jury found an Army soldier guilty of rape and murder in the slayings of a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and her family.

Jurors deliberated much of Friday evening before convicting 22-year-old Pvt. Jesse Spielman of Chambersburg, Pa., of conspiracy to commit rape, rape, housebreaking with intent to commit rape and four counts of felony murder.

Spielman was charged in connection with the March 12, 2006, slaying of the girl and the killings of her family. The attack took place in Mahmoudiya, a village about 20 miles south of Baghdad.

Military prosecutors did not say Spielman took part in the rape or murders but alleged he went to the house knowing what the others intended to do and served as a lookout. Spielman pleaded guilty Monday to lesser charges of conspiracy to obstructing justice, arson, wrongfully touching a corpse and drinking.

Good they should of also charged him (and his "buddies") with the deaths of the American soldiers that were kidnapped and killed in the same area a year later as retribution for the crime they committed (the group that kidnapped them stated it was revenge). Those men had no honor what so ever & as much as I am against the death penalty I wish they would get it. War crimes are bad for morale & the worlds perception of Americans.

I totally agree with you Green- :yes We are viewed in so many negative ways that there is no reason for our soldiers to add anymore. I hope they see the inside of Leavenworth for a loooong time.
