You could write a letter in it.
Like journaling sort of and then mail it off to you loved one.

idk it'll prolly be an all-purpose book type thing my journals scrapbooks and cookbooks tend to mesh into each other for instance, this is my cookbook:

I made one just like that last year for my DH, I used tin on the cover and embossed it with dog tags ;) I gave it to him as a journal
