***SPOILER*** I don't really think it's a spoiler since it was in the description for tonight's show, but in any case, just wanted to protect those who haven't seen it yet!

What would you do if you husband was killed in action, but the military lied about the location of the shooting and said it was enemy-fire but it was really friendly-fire?

Would you go to Congress with it, as the widow did on Army Wives, or not act upon it?

Really, what difference does it make? It seems like so much more heartache and stress and for what? It won't bring him back, ya know? I would want to know, but what does taking it to Congress do?

I personally wouldn't. I dislike the idea of not knowing how my SO died, but I do understand that sometimes there are reasons that things are not shared with civilians. Like in the show- he was killed in Pakistan. If they found out that Americans were shooting over there, it could harm our relations with them. While I agree that it is sad that someone's widow wouldn't be able to know how her husband died, I think that national security takes precedence. JMVHO. I don't like the principal of coverups, but I do believe that sometimes they are necessary.

That's exactly what I was thinking! It wouldn't change things so why go through all of that.

I agree.

I think it was a matter of truth and that it was a matter of her being told the truth instead of them covering up with a lie at the families sake. As I am sure everyone has learned in lifes lessons more hurt comes out of lies than telling the truth. She had to honor her husbands memory by getting the truth out - instead of just letting them get away with lieing about it. I agree with her.

Well, in my case that would depend. I would be satisfied if just I knew as long as my husbands good name was still intact. If he had died and his name had been smeared, I would take it as far as necessary to make sure he got his good name back.

I would of course be devastated, but I woudn't go to congress...because I know it wouldn't change anything. Sage is right that national security would have to come first. I do believe though that the family of a fallen soldier has the right to know the truth. :sadeyes

:yes it would just be added stress for me reliving it over and over again. But to be fair I have never been in that situation. I can think this is what I would do but who knows in that type of emotional situation.

I wouldn't go to Congress but only because my fiance would not want me to.

Yes, I would go to congress. I would deserve to know the truth, (as would my children) about how my husband had died. If someone sacrifices their very LIFE for their Nation then there family deserves to be treated honorably. It is a question of integrity & the military should always try to have it. Instead they sometimes try to cover their ass instead.

Last nights show reminded me of my friends (she was in OS in the Navy with me) Dad. He was a Army Ranger in Vietnam. He went on a covert op, they were ambushed and the helo that should of picked them up never came. It took him almost a year to get back across the lines. Since the mission was covert they listed him AWOL. His parents never believed him that he was not AWOL that year. His father never looked at him the same. Since he was an Army Ranger he could never fully explain to them what happened. It hurt his family, & it hurt him the service member. all because the Army was covering its ass.

I thought about that last night watching the show. Covert OPs are all fine and dandy BUT the family deserves to know what happened. My friends dad could of been killed over there & his family would never have known because they thought he was AWOL.
