View Full Version : * REMEMBER * OPSEC *
VinnysGirl 08-06-2007, 02:04 AM With all the newbies on the site and just to remind our members per OPSEC and security reasons we cannot have countdown tickers in signatures with the end result being an SO returning home. This is not to be a hassle, but to ensure our service members safety.
Also... please keep PERSONAL OPSEC in mind when posting pictures, details, and discussing your homes. We all want to make sure we are safe and keep our families safe.
Again.. this is just a reminder. Use your judgement and if you think it might not be ok then chances are it isn't!
theElephant 08-06-2007, 02:06 AM thanks steph.
goldilockz 08-06-2007, 02:09 AM Thanks for the reminder :thumbsup I think sometimes we get so wrapped up in our stuff that we forget these little things.
MIKOSWIFEY 08-06-2007, 02:12 AM Thanks Steph! :)
VinnysGirl 08-06-2007, 02:16 AM Yup! That's why I made it general! Just so everyone will take a step back and check their own posts and siggies and we can all keep each other in check without picking people out. I'll give a few I've noticed the day to get things fixed and then start PMing, but I want to give you a chance to take care of things first! If you don't think you've got anything questionable you probably don't so don't start freaking out, but chances are if you have something that needs to be changed you will know so just change it and we'll all go about our day!! :D Thanks!
andreacc 08-06-2007, 02:18 AM Your on top of everything! :thanx for looking out for us!
tifflovezyou 08-06-2007, 10:07 AM :bump Thanks Steph!

SezzySue 08-06-2007, 10:22 AM thanks
Kaymara 08-06-2007, 10:25 AM Thank ya! ;)
Ladies: An easy way to tell if your ticker is ok is to look at it and ask yourself this:
Is it counting down to anything having to do with my loved ones return? If you answered yes then you do need to change it to counting up so that it reads my ___ has been gone for _____ days or months.
harrisonsdream 08-06-2007, 10:27 AM easy way to make a count up ticker is go to the ticker site of your choice and instead of putting the day they come back put the day they left
mrskmw 08-06-2007, 10:27 AM thanks :)
texasgal 08-06-2007, 12:08 PM thank you so much for bringing this up! :D i've actually been concerned about this for the past week but didn't know how to say it. i have a very dear friend in the air force who is a big stickler on people not sharing dates of deployments & returns (even the month)(mostly because of what he does in af) and he said he had noticed more of this around the bases as well in general. so we use a code usually related to food but not always that helps me know when he's deploying & returning. sneaky sneaky :giggle!
goldilockz 08-06-2007, 01:45 PM I've noticed a recurring one whose "caption" has changed a few times..
theElephant 08-07-2007, 02:45 PM :agree
:bump Please Ladies and Gents, this is not something to take lightly:(
yes OPSEC is important for the safety of your loved ones and others its not always easy but extremely important
theElephant 08-08-2007, 12:57 AM :bump please ladies....don't just change your caption, change it to a countup ticker. Don't try and hide things, use OPSEC!
Thanks. Reminders are always good!

SailorWife2B0620 08-08-2007, 06:13 AM Mine is a count up.. Said missing my deployed sailor for "x" days, but now it just says "missing my deployed sailor for "." days?? Ive read around and I dont see why mine was wrong?
MIKOSWIFEY 08-08-2007, 06:16 AM I think it must have gotten messed up on the site you got it from. I've never seen a mod change the composition of a ticker, usually they would just remove it altogether if you failed to comply with opsec after warnings.

tickercentral has errors on theres often. It's not something a mod did.
SailorWife2B0620 08-08-2007, 06:38 AM Thought that might be it. Just making sure! Thanks Jennifer :)
ashlee62982 08-14-2007, 01:39 AM I didnt even think of it while posting. If there is anything in my *few* posts that shouldnt be there, please let me know and I will fix it. I never really posted on the 'net about all the army stuff...so I never had to question the security of what I was saying. Thanks for the tip/reminder and I will try to be very aware of what I am saying.
Mariathebratt 09-28-2007, 07:49 AM This Is Great! OPSEC Is Important.
