View Full Version : drug use spin off harrisonsdream 08-06-2007, 05:20 PM what do you consider to be drug use? is it using prescription drugs above what the doctor prescribes? is it only stuff that you can go to jail for? JudyB 08-06-2007, 09:06 PM Thats a hard one....I have known plenty of people in enough pain to use their class 3 prescriptions above what the doctor has prescribed....I myself have used a prescription headache medicine(class 3) above what was prescribed before. I would not call me a drug user or the people I know a drug user. I think that if you finish a class 3 script and start looking for more that you are a drug user.....at that point you are addicted. Anything under a class 3??? Not too sure...don't know too many who would use them to get a buzz or whatever off of them so I guess yea, I guess it's pretty much limited to things you can go to jail for. JMO tifflovezyou 08-06-2007, 09:22 PM To me, drug use is anything that is illegal or used is excess.(abused) I think drug use can definitley be prescription drugs, if they arent being taken as they are prescribed. Obviously, when one uses a substance that is illegal, its "drug use". And I also believe any type of use can take a vicious turn to an addiction. Prescription drug abuse is one of the highest forms right now. With people doctor shopping, drug seekers, etc. Its just a low keyed form of being a drug addict IMO Mommy2Bailey 08-06-2007, 09:31 PM Anything you use to excess or use to get high. rosebud* 08-06-2007, 09:35 PM any use other than the prescribed use.. also if you have more than one doctor that prescribes you the drug. I don't think drug use is limited to illegal drugs JudyB 08-06-2007, 09:41 PM . I guess it's pretty much limited to things you can go to jail for. JMO Just want to clarify myself with this statement..... You can go to jail for abusing and/or illegaly obtaining a class 3 prescription that was my main reason for saying that. I do not think that it's limited to street drugs at all, it definitely includes prescription drugs too sorry, just had to clarify for myself:giggle Dr. K 08-06-2007, 09:41 PM Some definitions: Substance misuse: use of a substance for unintended purposes or for appropriate purposes but in improper amounts/doses Substance abuse: deliberate, persistent, and excessive use of a substance without regard to health concerns or accepted medical practices LuvmyNavybear 08-06-2007, 09:41 PM I think that it doesn't matter the substance if you find yourself reliant on something to get through the day without a valid medical reason then it's an addiction. People abuse more than just class 3 scrips. It's a state of mind. I know personally of a woman who bought a generic brand of tylenol (Dollar Store) from her "dealer" and honestly believed that they were Percs. She actually got a "high" from them. He tricked her and she never knew the difference. Any class 3 substance is what is the most common as far as abuse goes....marijuana and cocaine are catergorized as class 3's just to name a few That lady was not abusing tylenol...she thought she was getting percocet and her level of addiction allowed her mind believe she was taking percocet LuvmyNavybear 08-06-2007, 10:04 PM As I said it's a state of mind. She thought that was what she had and she used them for that purpose. I do however, believe that Tylenol can be abused just as easily as another drug if it is not taked as directed. I lived with a drug user for 5 yrs and I've seen it all. kristyw94 08-06-2007, 10:10 PM Using any drug or prescription that isn't yours, was not prescribed to you, or in an improper fashion (other than the way it was prescribed). So basically, other ppls meds, illegal meds, or taking more than you are supposed to. The last part being more forgiveable if you really do need it, like when you are only supposed to have 2 pain pills in 24 hours, but you took a 3rd one after only 23 or something cause it wore off early. tifflovezyou 08-06-2007, 10:12 PM Using any drug or prescription that isn't yours, was not prescribed to you, or in an improper fashion (other than the way it was prescribed).
