View Full Version : Tuition Assistance Waiver? Rileysmom 08-10-2007, 12:42 PM Has anyone's SO attempted to get the credit waiver for TA? Were they successful? TIA! Bex 08-10-2007, 12:44 PM bogW? board of governor's waiver? :D Rileysmom 08-10-2007, 12:50 PM No, we already got that! :five :whew Thankfully! That has saved us so much money and made getting my degree possible! I give the Governator mucho credit for the educational programs he has advocated for! :yes It's for the Navy TA program. There is a 12 credit limit per fiscal year, and you can request that to be waivered, and instead use up to $4500 (that would mean $1500 extra dollars towards his tuition). And I was just wondering if anyone had attempted to do it. I guess it's on a case-by-case basis... Bex 08-10-2007, 01:03 PM ahhh!! i (L) the bog-w!! i've not heard of the other -- but that's because j started using his GI bill after separation. :shrug i'd say google it, but i'm sure you've gone that route and are just looking for someone who has actually USED it :D Rileysmom 08-10-2007, 01:08 PM Yeah I did google it.. couldn't find much except for the forms :neutral The Navy JUST took away tuition assistance for those that have less than one year left in the military. Which sucks becuase we were counting on it for the next two years, and now he can only get it this year, so we are hoping to use the waiver to get ALL his classes paid for. Thanks for the help though! Bex 08-10-2007, 01:10 PM you're welcome!! i must say -- i admire that you're BOTH in school right now!! i don't know how you guys do it!! i want to finish school but between our jobs, the photography business, jason's college, the kids and the impending birth of the baby... i just can't do it... soon, though!!!! Rileysmom 08-10-2007, 01:24 PM Yeah it's certainly not easy, but the guarantee of a good job and Ryan being home every night and no IA's and him getting a good paying job so we can stay down here is what keeps us going! After the baby is born and things settle down a bit I'm sure you will find time. Riley's naptime=Trey study time. Not ideal because I would rather be napping too, but it will all be worth it in the end! So Jason probably gets that $1000 or so a month stipend for school then, right? That must be a nice help!! Christy 08-10-2007, 02:50 PM My dh has used it for the last 2 semesters. :D Rileysmom 08-10-2007, 03:01 PM My dh has used it for the last 2 semesters. :D He used TA or he got the maximum credits waivered? Thanks for your help! luvmysailor81904 08-10-2007, 03:02 PM When I was in Community College for my AA, I did the TA and didn't have to pay for my tuition because my mom fell within the salary bracket. Christy 08-10-2007, 03:17 PM He used TA or he got the maximum credits waivered? Thanks for your help! He used the TA and it covered up to 5 classes. He also received Financial aid and scholarships. We were able to actually pockets money. His commanded had to sign some paper and he took it to the college office on base and the navy paid for his classes. His commanded had to sign some paper and he took it to the college office on base and the navy paid for his classes. Well see the TA covers up to 16 credit hours (which is about 5 hours), but you can also request MORE money than that (up to $4500). Has he done that? The deadline is Aug 31st if he hasn't.... can't hurt right! Here is some more info on getting the extra money: https://www.navycollege.navy.mil/tuition/ta10.html Christy 08-10-2007, 03:28 PM Well see the TA covers up to 16 credit hours (which is about 5 hours), but you can also request MORE money than that (up to $4500). Ill be sure to let him know. Rileysmom 08-10-2007, 03:33 PM Oh thank you , thank you!! I did not know he could get more. That is awesome. Ill be sure to let him know. No problem! The thing is, they offer it on a case-by-case basis, so thats why I was wondering if anyone had gotten it before! I am gonna have him apply anyways, so we'll see what happens! Good luck to you guys too! Bex 08-10-2007, 03:38 PM Yeah it's certainly not easy, but the guarantee of a good job and Ryan being home every night and no IA's and him getting a good paying job so we can stay down here is what keeps us going! That must be a nice help!! yea, its about 1100 since he got the Navy College Fund when he enlisted instead of a sign-on bonus!! it's a great way for him to go to college without worrying about extra out of pocket!! so you guys have decided to stay in cali :) that's awesome!! we want to stay here as well... but the midwest and southern east coast is looking sweet too... J's sister is in the process of purchasing a new build home... 1400 sq feet, 3 bedroom 2 bath for.................. $109K!! (in michigan) makes me wonder why i stay here :rofl Rileysmom 08-10-2007, 03:46 PM Yeah no kidding! We just got back from Missouri and saw the same thing! Brand new 2-3 story homes with 5 bedrooms for $180K. Shit, we could get two homes there for the price of ONE dumpy place here. :mumble But Ryan should do well once he is out, so we'll just have to wait until then... The market is in our favor right now (as I am sure you know) but we still haven't found anything, and when something does pop up, the flippers are on it so fast it makes your head spin... :imwaiting But the educational programs, the beach, the weather, all the stuff to do, people are paying for the beach and the weather I suppose! |
