View Full Version : deployment Q
st_raphael8386 08-10-2007, 10:01 PM I was wondering when it comes to deployment will my SO get a few months warning? usually. Or can they spring it on him within just a few weeks or a month>? Cause I got a call from him that his next base will be Fort Carson (finally state side!) But he said that there is of course the risk of him being deployed again. Well i want to visit him but i want to know if i might have a few months buffer so I don't waste money on a plane ticket and find out that i can't see him or he's gone.
lacy+chk 08-10-2007, 10:03 PM DF had a few months notice, but that is the marine corps...i don't know if different branches are different, and it might also depend on his job too...i hope you get enough notice so you can see him as much as possible! :hugs
holysht 08-10-2007, 10:08 PM i think you get a few months notice. i believe there is like a "refresher" course some have to go thru. well, when my unit was getting ready to deploy they did that. and so did my friend that is getting ready to leave in a few months. but, i dunno if its all like that.
holysht 08-10-2007, 10:08 PM oh, but the exact date can be changed at any time
Twink 08-10-2007, 10:22 PM DB is in the army and he was able to schedule his own. He's reassured me that its pretty solid (since I have been used to things being scheduled and rescheduled and then rescheduled one more time)
lacy+chk 08-10-2007, 10:25 PM oh, but the exact date can be changed at any time
yeah, there was a "window" of a week or so that it could change it some date within that window...DF's unit ended up changing to sending half the platoon on one day and half two days later like the week of...
celise 08-10-2007, 10:27 PM Df is in the Navy and this is our first deployment that we are going to be dealing with. He found out immediately when he reported to his new station that he would be deploying in Feb. So that gives us about 6 months. But like what was said above.. it can change, and may be different based on different stations/ships/rates. Good luck sweety! I know with us we at the least get 2 weeks leave before hand.. At least that was what I was told!
st_raphael8386 08-11-2007, 10:01 AM OK thanks
That makes me feel slightly better. I already know the military will reschedule stuff, i've already had to deal with that with SO's Sergent school. First they told him he's going then changed there mind 3 more times to where it was no. Then now...he is currently at school. I was pulling my hair out during that week.
Laurie119 08-11-2007, 10:05 AM Hubby was on 3 deployments while in the Navy.
1. Got to Everett in Nov, found out he was deploying in Jan.
2. He went out on a 2 week underway, that turned into a 9 month deployment (Becca, you remember that one?)
3. He found out he "might" be going to Iraq on September 16th, he was gone October 9th.
~*~Katie~*~ 08-11-2007, 11:54 AM DB got a few months notice, he is in the marines
Daphne 08-11-2007, 12:04 PM DH was told in Feb. that he was leaving in April for pre-deployment training and leaving for Iraq as soon as it was done. Though there has been changes here and there it has only been a matter of 2 or 3 days difference. Other than that they have been doing what they were told they were going to. except the nice difference was he was able to come home 4 times during pre-deployment training (but we had to pay for the plane tickets out of pocket, thank you SkyBus for such cheap flights) but well worth it.
define 08-12-2007, 03:01 AM My husbands always had a few months notice; however, it can always change or they can be told they leave much sooner than expected (it's happened with a few friends of mine.)
Traci 08-12-2007, 11:38 AM My DH is on a ship so they are pretty much have the times they just BS with the exact dates until it gets closer. they can leave sooner but we at least get a few days to a week notice. DH is always prepaird to leave ASAP. My Dad was a career Marine and I know in the past they took him with only a few hours notice. That was also 20 years ago.:giggle I think it depends on the branch and situation. . Expect the worst and hope for the best. You never know with the military. I have learned they can do whatever they want.
