View Full Version : Care Package Q
Turtle2_6 08-12-2007, 01:26 PM DB wants a can of air so that he can clean his laptop but he wasn't sure if you can sent that throught he mail. doesn't anybody know if you can or not?
Also, db has a sweet tooth, but i don't know what to send him to the sand box that would melt or be a gooey sticky mess. Anytime i ask him what he wants he's like, "anything" which doesn't help at all...
Anyone got any ideas?
kristyw94 08-12-2007, 02:05 PM Hard candies don't melt as easy. Something like creme savers, butterscotch, etc. Tootsie rolls do good, as well as Creme Caramels (the brown circle things with creme in the middle). Cookies, cakes (as long as there is no fruit in them).
I have no idea about the air.
andreacc 08-12-2007, 02:15 PM I would advise against the can o' air. It could possibly explode or something. My db is another one of the "anything" kinda guys when I ask about care packages. So I put in things that remind him of the time we spent together before he left. We had a HUGE Star Wars debate. (yes were both nerds) So I put in a StarWars kids book I found, a BUNCH of hard candies, Beef jerkie, burned cd's. You could throw in a few of his fav magazines, some puzzle books. (i send db a few soduko books)
I hope this helps. I also have a list on my laptop at home of things that are good to send. If you pm me i'll remember to send it to you if youd like once I get home from work.
C'swife 08-12-2007, 02:19 PM A suggestion instead of the can of air, is a toothbrush. Sounds weird but my coworkers and I have used them at work to clean out our keyboards ;) tell him to use the toothbrush in the cracks and then tip the keyboard upside down and give it a good pat, stuff will just fall out, gross I know!
rcwant2be 08-12-2007, 02:43 PM i really doubt you can send the can of compressed air.
leftover 08-12-2007, 02:50 PM I've sent air...
eeyore_adw 08-12-2007, 02:53 PM I probably wouldn't send the air, because its pressurized and may explode , and once hubby even told me the PX where he is stopped carrying the can air, but didn't know why.
I agree with the toothbrush, or a small paintbrush works pretty good as well.
I have sent hard candies and such. But I've also sent homemade cookies, and I've probably sent 20 batches of brownies over the last year.

sillygrl76 08-12-2007, 05:39 PM I had no idea what to send DB at first so I winged it. I sent him snacks that I like, lol. Who doesn't like Lorna Doones right? Yum-O! Who the heck knows if he needed underwear but I sent him some boxers too. I guess they just like anything coming from you kwim?
mamaofbeaniebaby 08-12-2007, 06:02 PM I've baked my husband chocolate chip cookies, he said they made it ok. But you could send oreos, cookie sandwiches, those hard caramel candies. I've sent my husband store bought cupcakes, they held up fine. As for his computer, if you can find one of those replacement mascara brushes those work well.
Turtle2_6 08-12-2007, 06:39 PM mmm...i didn't about sending him baked goods. how would you go about sending them? wouldn't they good stale?
I got some hard candies that he mentioned he liked but i don't think chocolate would fair will at all huh? (DB is a huge chocoholic)
i won't be sending the air and suggust he buy a toothbrush from the exchange on base...but thank you tell me about the air. Last thing i need is my first care package to him to blow up haha
Heather 08-12-2007, 07:58 PM I wont send batteries or aerosol cans. I heard somewhere its dangerous. So I just don't send it.
I've sent tons of snacks the only thing that didn't work out was chocolate covered cherries. I found them in the cupboard and I don't like them so I tossed them in the box. They exploded out of their little wrapped bubbles and made a big sticky mess.
some of the things i've sent:
easy mac in the single serving bowls. (He can't get enough of that stuff)
pop tarts
cereal bars
chips
tootsie rolls
star bursts
bite sized cookies that come in the zip lock bags. (he can reseal them and they wont get stale or make a mess if they tip over)
fruit leather
100 calories snack packs
assorted hard candies
cup of noodles
little debbie cup cakes (so he could have cake on our sons birthday!)
Theres been more I just can't think of it.
Turtle2_6 08-12-2007, 09:13 PM Oooh!! Pop tarts! he love those things! and i didn't know hard candies and tootsie rolls held up in the heat...you guys have given really great ideas...i really do appreciate it!
It's been so hard to get things together since he is so alusive to what he wants...but you have all been a great help.
No aerosol cans...ok...i was planning to send silly string cause he asked about it a while ago..are those safe?
Jen25 08-13-2007, 12:57 AM they make chocolate flavored hard candies and i've had good luck with m&ms. I freeze them before I send them too. Silly string is an aresol can too. I wouldn't recommend it. Squirt guns can be popular though. They make the little ones too that are super soaker style that you can find at Dollar Tree or 5 Below. The foam little Nerf footballs are fun too if he likes tossing a football at all. Fig Newtons shipped pretty well too. I repacked them in tupperware with a slice of bread above and below it. I do the pack and toss kind of tupperware so it isn't too expensive.

I worried the cookies I bake might go stale also, but he didn't mention they had so I figured they were fine. His packages usually only take about 10 days to arrive anyhow. Ofcourse it depends on circumstances when the packages arrive but ANYWAYS...
When I bake him cookies I let them cool completely then put them in big baggies and wrap them with bubble wrap. I also send store bought ones too. My Tommy loves oreos and choclate chip granola bars. I also send him boxes of ritz cheese crackers. Sometimes he has to skip meals so snacks like that help.
BrittanyJo 08-14-2007, 01:33 PM I've always heard you can't send aerosol cans
