My good friend may be going there and I was hoping to get opinions from all of you.
They have school age kids, church going, community active family.
Can you all help with any of those???
TIA:D
almost everything is actually in Kittery, ME. the housing is pretty nice and quiet. There is a mall not too far and actually lots to do in the area if you venture out.

What are the schools like? Are they good?
Is there things for school age kids to do there?
Would you raise your kids there?
How are housing prices?
What is your fave thing about Portsmouth or Kittery?
Thanks ladies.....I want to help them out because they just got out of the Navy:)

Are they planning on living in Portsmouth? Kittery? Another surrounding town? NH/ME tax laws are different so they should look into that before they decide on where to buy.
Good school systems, I would definitely raise my kids in that area, a lot to do. Great beaches, parks, short drive to Boston and up to the ski areas in Maine. The University of NH is about 20 minutes away. Durham (where UNH is) is also a great community, fun place to visit and lots of things going on there, and lots of interesting people who work there live in the Portsmouth area as well.
Housing is expensive, the further "inland" you go or further away from Portsmouth, housing will be more affordable.
Portsmouth has a wonderful, idyllic New England downtown. Coffee shops, restaurants, lots of little "giftie" shops. They decorate like crazy around the holidays--a nice community.
Where are they re-locating from? Where are they from originally? Is he working at the Naval Shipyard? That might make a difference in where they want to live, I know the traffic can be pretty bad when everyone leaves the shipyards in the afternoon (a minor thing--I probably shouldn't have even mentioned it! we don't really have 'traffic' in NH) :giggle.
newington (right next to portsmouth) is more... commercial. Big box stores, car dealerships, chain restaurants, malls, movie theaters, etc.
Good luck to your friends. If they have any specific questions please pass them along, I'd be happy to share my knowledge of the area. ;)
Everything but food is tax free in NH.
