I use it for ground beef or stir fry a lot.sometimes chicken.. just depends.. I also like to use it for recipies that call for you to put in the oven because I don't have to dirty two pans.

EVERYTHING!! I am a southern girl & my cast iron was my great-great-grandmother's so it means a lot to me. The normal things I cook in it are any meat and of course cornbread but I also use it for stir-fry, pasta bakes, chicken pot pie (but my g'ma is the only one who is really succesful at that one!), mexican, on & on & on. They are great- just remember- do NOT use soap until it is VERY well seasoned & even then only the littlest bit on really crusted on stuff. Also a tip for preservation- after you have washed it heat it on med/high on the stove until the leftover water drys out & the remove & allow to cool. Oh! and DON'T EVER put it under water while it is still hot.

Sorry that is so long- I was raised on cast iron & probably know way to much about them!

ENJOY!

a lot of things since i'm southern also. if you put oil and seasoning in it.. and just let it sit for a day.. it'll stay with the skillet and gives great flavor to everything you make. that's why i love cast iron skillets!

ohh FYI i'm not sure if every dillards have it.. but a lot of their cast iron skillets are on sale for $20 for different kinds.. it's that famous chef Emeril's brand

:hungry i use mine for so many different things (minus pork & such; kosher thing). i'll also use it for baking buttermilk biscuits. my great-grandmother did that; everyone who knew her said they always turned out great. i tried it--and they are pretty good in the cast iron. ...two different cast irons for meat & milk (for those "keeping track").

i haven't cooked in cast iron much since i was a kid, cuz that's what my grandparents had, however, i house sat for a woman who was the gourmet-est cook i know & she SWORE by her cast iron. after repetitive use, they get a great season & actually get impregnated with oil so they become almost nonstick.
