View Full Version : A warning
Kaymara 08-14-2007, 08:09 PM For those even remotley thinking of flying for a conus PCS move.. DONT. They will ONLY give you DLA, pay for your tickets and give you 1 day of travel expenses. The rest is completly out of YOUR pocket. SOOOO not worth it. We are out over 2400 bucks from this move (total move was 4400 bucks that cost us. minus DLA and the 132 of 1 day travel pay) we are eating 2400 bucks. Had we of drove we would of only been out around 400 bucks.
I likely will NOT be around here much at all. I gotta figure some crap out. We figured we'd be getting at least 1000 back for lodging and food and nope.
froglove 08-14-2007, 08:13 PM DAMN!!! That really sucks!! I hate how they screw people like that!!!! Thank goodness we are driving
Sarah 08-14-2007, 08:15 PM That's why we have always driven to our duty stations. You always get way more money than by flying.
Sorry you are out so much money.

Well we normally do too. but with a 4 month old and a 2.5 year old we decided to fly ONLY after being told by GL travel office that'd our lodging would be covered. We kn ew we'd be out more $ then driving but not all. Not to mention rods brothers death and my stepdads death that we had to fly too etc. I really hope no more family emergencies cuz our emergency fund is negative
Rileysmom 08-14-2007, 08:21 PM Wow Kristi, that really sucks! :hugs I am so sorry! :(
RockstarMom 08-14-2007, 08:21 PM :sadeyes I am really sorry that happened to you. I don't think we'll ever fly. I enjoy cross-country driving trips, yeah, even with kids.
Kaymara 08-14-2007, 08:23 PM :sadeyes I am really sorry that happened to you. I don't think we'll ever fly. I enjoy cross-country driving trips, yeah, even with kids.
Ditto. And we probably would of if Ashley was older and hadnt just gotten out of Childrens hospital a moneth before we moved. This year has been awful for us. The ONLY good thing is the birth of Ashley. Which obviously is the BEST thing in the world (L) Our luck has been rotten so I truthfully think I need to hibernate some or something. I just cannot believe the amount of shit thats happened
At any rate I just wanted to warn anyone contemplating flying.
MelissaMc424 08-14-2007, 08:25 PM Thanks for the info.. Sorry you're having to eat the cost though Kristi! That's really not fair!
Margaret 08-14-2007, 08:28 PM Good Luck girl!! I am so very sorry!!!:depressed
mossey2000 08-14-2007, 08:44 PM that sucks :hugs
Heather 08-14-2007, 11:22 PM The kids and I flew from WA to GL for our first move and we didn't have many problems. We didn't get any money for food or lodging (even though our HHG were in transit) We only got the DLA and the money for the plane tickets. We knew if we had his car shipped it was out of our pocket.
Im sorry you didn't get what they told you'd get. That sucks so much. I hope you can get things figured out before christmas.
Kaymara 08-14-2007, 11:31 PM I knew we wouldnt get the money for shipping the car. I also knew we wouldnt get the money for our rental car. And that was fine. We were told we'd get food and lodging tho. Because lets face it. Doesnt matter if you fly or you drive you arent gonna have a place to stay the second you get there. We were told we forfieted mileage and per diem but would get the lodging (up to 10 days at up to 180 bucks per day.. TLE). Thats the main reason we stayed in the lodge as long as we did. We figured we'd get the money back and the last thing I wanted was to force my kiddos to sleep on the floor. So we figured since we'd get the lodging money no biggie
Its neither here nor there. I just want people to know what they get if they fly. We'll never fly again and if I have it my way we'll never move again. The navy actually made money off us flying... Which is why I find it riduclous that they wont reimburse for lodging. If I could get back to GL I would strangle that entire travel department for telling us what they did. But whatever. I'm done and I am spent. I just wanted others to know.
CoffeeGirl 08-14-2007, 11:32 PM Kristi sweetheart, I am so so terribly sorry this happened to your family-They should be forthright & truthful from the beginning so you know how things will be once you go forward with your new duty station-It is a terrible loss for you guys & again, I am so truly sorry-losing $ SUCKS!!!
Kaymara 08-14-2007, 11:34 PM I hope you can get things figured out before christmas.
Well WIth Ethans bday in Nov, Christmas in Dec and Ashley bday in Feb :lol Its fine and it'll work out 1 way or another. I am too tired to even care anymore. Money is stupid.
aubrey 08-14-2007, 11:40 PM I'm so sorry you're dealing w/ that. :hugs That really sucks they told you the wrong information. :no
Mommy2Bailey 08-14-2007, 11:45 PM Wow that sucks!!
sunshyne 08-15-2007, 12:03 AM I am so sorry. That really stinks big time. You should call or write a letter to them in GL anyway and tell them what asses they are!
SIMMYBABEZ 08-15-2007, 12:13 AM Eeek! I thought driving would be more expensive, depending on distance ofcourse.
I'm sorry the move has put you out so much. Don't stay away for too long!
define 08-15-2007, 04:13 AM :( That really sucks you were told the wrong information. I'm sorry you're dealing with this. :hugs
VinnysGirl 08-15-2007, 04:24 AM I'm sorry girl!! That's a lot of money!! I hope you can get something figured out that will get you all back in the black regarding your emergency fund! :hugs I'll be sending good thoughts and vibes!!!!
Kaymara 08-15-2007, 10:24 AM Ok...
We're in the process of fighting this and writing to the Navy times. But I wanted opinions on this...
We KNEW we forfieted per diem for flying. Per diem is for food and lodging DURING your travel. So while driving it is for the time you are driving and need to eat and stay somewhere
We also KNEW we'd forfeit mileage. Which is a duh. But thats the amount you get per miles
Now we were told we would still get TLE. Upon looking up requirements on TLE this is what it states
TEMPORARY LODGING EXPENSE (TLE). TLE is designed to partially offset lodging and meal expenses when a member and/or dependents need to occupy temporary lodging in CONUS (Continental United States) in connection with a PCS. The member receives reimbursement (for member and family members) for temporary lodging and meal expenses, up to $180 per day.
If the member is moving from from one CONUS base to another, he/she is authorized up to 10 days TLE, either at the losing duty station or at the new duty station (or any combination, up to 10 days total).
If the member is moving from CONUS to overseas, they can only receive up to five days TLE at the losing duty station. If the member is moving from Overseas to CONUS, they can receive up to 10 days TLE at the new CONUS duty station after arrival.
TLE is not paid for lodging made during the actual travel days from one duty station to another (that's an entirely different animal, called "per diem," rather it's for temporary lodging (in the states) at the old duty station, before departure, or at the new duty station, after arrival.
So shouldnt we be entitled to that? I mean we did have to stay in a hotel here. And whether or not you drive or fly obviously a house wont be ready. I mean I knew we'd lose the per diem cuz duh we arent driving and wont be staying in lodging WHILE driving. And then the mileage. But the TLE sounds like we should still get and truthfully I think they are trying to screw us. It makes NO sense to me that they can say "well you flew so you dont get nothing for lodging once you get here" That seems wierd to me
MichelleB 08-15-2007, 10:28 AM I'm so sorry Kristi! :( I hope you can get everything worked out.
gunsgirl 08-15-2007, 10:39 AM you should absolutely get TLE---
did you stay at a hotel at the old PDS? and if you did for how long?
TLE is only payable for up to 10 days- it can be used in part at the old PDS and in part at the new PDS-
it can be used any way that does not exceed 10 days-
we used 8 days in Kodiak and 2 days here- for a total of 10 days...
it does not make a difference whether you fly or drive---
I would deff speak to a senoir enlisted at the finance office- if that doesn't work call the base commander !!!

3 days at old duty station and 7 here. (well technically like 10 here but we know we wouldnt get every single day back) they are refusing to even give us TLE tho. And from what I read and see we should get it. So now we fight it :nutts
MIKOSWIFEY 08-15-2007, 10:54 AM Definitely fight them on that Kristi! That's got to be a simple case of someone not doing their job once again.
Brandi 08-15-2007, 11:55 AM you should absolutely get TLE. Period.
mara_jade81 08-15-2007, 12:27 PM Fight and win! I hope it all works out for you Kristi. Damn Navy trying to screw you over, kick them in the nuts!
*Christy6* 08-15-2007, 02:15 PM you should absolutely get TLE. Period.
I agree. It doesnt make sense at all.
Kaymara 08-15-2007, 03:05 PM Thats what I am thinking too. So I am in the process of drafting a letter to the navytimes which I WILL submit if they keep insisting we get NOTHING. Hopefully this doesnt get ugly but come on. TLE is something we should be entitled to. It isnt like I am asking for stuff I know we shouldnt get. All I want is what we are entitled to. I think we at least deserve that
Dang Kris... Im sorry ya'll are going through this. We are having a bitch of a time too with them getting us San Diego BAH instead of Jax. And we have to walk in 1300 for BAH on the first and we only get 940 from Jax. A holes. Its been a helluva time.
I hope ya'll get what your entitled. That is just BS in book. You have kids, you were told something, and you of course believe what they tell you. I mean, its their jobs right? :dunno

Kaymara 08-30-2007, 11:46 PM Well after fighting it we got our TLE. I KNEW we were entitled. The dipshit who Rod submitted the crap to never submitted it because he didnt think we were entitled to it :nutts So he went over his head and the chief resubmitted it and it was deposited yesterday
RockstarMom 08-30-2007, 11:48 PM :yahoo Less stress on you now!! :hugs

Michelle 08-31-2007, 12:08 AM That's great news, Kristi!!
Dragonfly76 08-31-2007, 01:22 AM Thanks for the info. I'll keep that in mind when we're restationed.
SIMMYBABEZ 08-31-2007, 01:26 AM dude... same with a onconus to a conus move. They make us move, make us ship our things, leave us with no car, don't have any room in the lodge- and gives us plane tickets and 1600 bucks. Yeah right.
At this moment.........we are out $3000 for moving expenses alone. This move has put us in the shitter. Thank god my parents could help out.. however...... we still need to pay it back and because our orders wern't "specified" for those "sorts of expenses"......we have paid SO FUCKING MUCH to move FOR THE ARMY.
WIKSWIFE 09-05-2007, 01:59 PM Save all of your receipts/proof of payments, etc. You can file them on your taxes. Any moving expense (job relatexd) can be a tax deduction.
