Since I'm not a Navy wife/have no ship homecoming experience I can only offer my best general advice - wear something comfortable, ESPECIALLY THE SHOES! Nothing makes waiting worse than being in uncomfortable shoes.
Other than that -:bump - so you can get some better advice, lol.
Congrats on the impending homecoming, btw!

Comfy shoes, a hair brush if you plan on leaving your hair down (it can get windy there at the pier).......... :thinkin

You should really get on the stennis ombudsman and frg email list. They send stuff out all the time for the families here and in SD.

I'm not sure b.c. I'm a sub wife but good luck and yay for mega butterflies!!! :cp :D I always take some bottled water w/me (when we were in GA it got really hot) and they don't have anything set up for drinks etc. Just us wives and kids on the pier for the Trident sub my husband was on. I'm not sure how surface homecomings are. Tons more people though so I'm sure it's even more exciting! Have a great time!! :happy

Expect it to be insane. check the weather forecast before hand so that you aren't constantly battling your dress if it is windy. also if you are afraid he might not see you make a giant sign so he can recognize you.. Friends of ours blew up a picture of thier son in a tigger costume ( that dad had seen before) and she waved that at the pier so he could find her quickly. take a friend that has no relation to the homecoming if you want pics of that first kiss back. use waterproof mascara because waterworks will happen. most of just live in the moment. :thumbsup

hiya! well i can be of some help.. i have been on cruise and i have been through two homecomings there! as for 32nd st... take I-5 south, you then will get off of 28th and keep straight ( do not vere right), you then will see a mcdonalds on the right, del taco on the left, past all that and keep going straight, and then you will see the gate to 32nd on the left, turn in there and you will see the navy lodge as you drive in.
as for going to N.I...the next mornin, you would go back out the gate you came in and just keep going straight and then you will see the on ramp for I-5 north, take that and then you will see the coronado bridge exit, take that and it will get you to N.I... i would say go as early as you can.. there will be lines to get in. and parkin will be fought for.. LOL usually they will tell you what pier they will be pullin into. and then you just wait to see him! and like they said make a sign, so he could see you! and after, it will be kinda hectic gettin out:D

I will be at the Homecoming in San Diego also. I will get there a few hours ahead to make sure I have parking. I didn't think there was going to be a very big homecoming in San Diego because most of the family's are in WA. I'm kinda curious of how its going to go.

there usually is alot of family and friends there... like the ones that are driving home, taking leave, and the ones that are in squadrons.. so it all adds up.... then the rest will be goin to WA...
