(KDKA) MONROEVILLE Police are investigating after they say a 16-year-old cheerleader from Monroeville was stabbed to death in an apparent murder-suicide attempt by her boyfriend.

Demi Cuccia, a Gateway High School student, was stabbed outside of a townhouse on Elliot Road off of Route 22. She lived at the complex and her boyfriend lived less than a mile away.

Investigators say she was stabbed in the chest and died at Forbes Regional Hospital. About 30 feet away, police found 19-year-old John Mullarkey bleeding profusely. Police believe his wounds were self-inflicted.

Donna Walko’s oldest daughter, Heather, was on the same Gateway cheerleading squad as Cuccia.

“She was a good kid. She was sweet, she wouldn’t hurt anybody. Beautiful, she turned 16 [Tuesday],” she said.

Loved ones are devastated.

“I knew it was going to happen. I talked to her so many times, I tried telling her this was going to happen someday, he was crazy. He always said he would kill her and this time he succeeded.”

At last report, Mullarkey was listed in critical condition at a Pittsburgh hospital.

i have two girls and my hubby and their father is the same way... The world is getting rough and we will just have to take it one day at a time and teach them how to be strong and avoid potentially dangerous situations. when do you find out the sex of the baby?
