GALVESTON — An Arkansas man accused of burning his 2-month-old daughter in a microwave oven failed Wednesday to convince a judge that his bail should be lowered from $250,000 to $80,000.
Galveston County District Judge Susan Criss refused for the second time to lower bail for Joshua Joyce Mauldin, 19, of Warren, Ark. Criss denied a request in May to lower Mauldin's bail to $100,000.
Mauldin's attorney, Samuel Cammack III, said he is recommending a psychiatric examination to determine if Mauldin was insane when the child was burned.
