RALEIGH, N.C. - Uncle Kracker, a former disc jockey for Kid Rock, was arrested early Friday on a second-degree sex offense charge, authorities said.

Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue said a 26-year-old woman alleged that a man had committed a sexual act against her at the Ess Lounge, a downtown nightclub.

Kracker, 33, was arrested at a hotel in suburban Cary. He was being held at the Wake County Jail on a $5 million bond, Sughrue said.

Sughrue said police had obtained a warrant charging Kracker with second-degree forcible sex offense.

Kracker, whose real name is Matthew Shafer, was to appear in court Friday afternoon, said Wake County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Phyllis Stevens.

A message left with his listed agency in Nashville, Tenn., wasn't immediately returned, and a phone number for his listed management company in Harrison Township, Mich., was disconnected.

Kracker's hits include "When the Sun Goes Down," a duet with Kenny Chesney. The 33-year-old rock-country musician has also won acclaim for "Follow Me" and a cover version of Dobie Gray's "Drift Away."

He doesn't seem the type to be a sex offender.

I think it's high, but I believe that it goes by how much the person makes a year??? I don't know. All my law knowledge comes from Law and Order, need I say more! :rofl

What does a sex offender look like? I knew a guy who was a CPA and he put something in my drink to try to make me drunk so he could have sex with me, because he knew I wasn't going to have sex with him. I never would have thought that he would do something like that. So what does a sex offender look like? It is really bad that anyone could be one. And of course I would have never thought that Uncle Kracker would have been on. After all women throw themselves at celebs all the time. I dated a one guy who was a celeb for a while and it's amazing the way women act. Women didn't care if I was there or not. They would just go after him. One time a girl invited him to come to her house so she could show him her new bed, in front of me. He said no thanks my girlfriend and I have plans. She said oh that's your girlfriend. So you never know what happened exactly when a sexual assault occurs with a celeb involved in it. I agree, I would have never thought Uncle Kracker would be that kind of man, but who knows. He should have been at home with his family relaxing. I don't feel bad for him if he did it.
