View Full Version : eating for one
Ashnbri 08-17-2007, 04:04 PM What do yall usually make when it is only you? :thinking I am having a tough time thinking of what I can get or make for just me....it is so hard because I know if I get a casserole or something it will be mostly thrown away. I am sick of TV dinners and all that lol.
missinghim 08-17-2007, 04:32 PM I fix breakfast for dinner a good bit. Grits, eggs, bacon...mmmmm :giggle
Daphne 08-17-2007, 04:33 PM I just have been getting take out.
rosebud* 08-17-2007, 04:34 PM when i was alone, me and take out were best friends. which is expensive. maybe make things that you can par down for single servings, like tacos, you can buy the bigger ground beef, but split the package up into single servings.
KDMatthews 08-17-2007, 04:43 PM I eat a lot of sandwiches, salads, and soup when i'm alone.
mrsjones0520 08-17-2007, 05:34 PM I eat alot of canned stuff-Ravoli, spaghetti-o's, soup, rice and noodles, ect. I also eat TV dinners, but I'll get the Lean Cuisine ones or the Stouffer's ones because they are alot better tasting. Then I also buy hot pockets or Toquitos or things like that that I can microwave for one!
MelissaMc424 08-17-2007, 05:35 PM nukeables, sandwiches.. things that can easily be frozen in a leftover form.
kristyw94 08-17-2007, 05:43 PM Noodles (not ramen) are good and easy to make small batches. Then you top them with whatever you want. I like to put 1 tsp vinegar, 1 tbs olive oil, fresh cut tomatoes chopped, and fresh cut cucumber, chopped. Sometimes I top with a small amount of butter and Parmesan. The possibilities are endless.
I cook minute rice a lot too, and you can top that with butter and sugar, or chicken and steamed veggies. Sometimes I put in cheese and canned tuna. There are a lot of possibilities here too.
And so you don't feel like you are making a big mess or a big fuss over one meal, you can buy canned chicken and/or canned veggies and then just microwave them for about a minute to get them warm.
Buy wraps instead of bread, you can do a lot with a wrap too. All you need is a little salad dressing, some veggies, maybe some lunchmeat or canned chicken, etc.
Another good idea is to cook on one day, and then freeze some and put some in the fridge. I take a whole bag of chicken breast, boil some, fry some and bake some. Then I cut them up in cubes and freeze in small bowls (except the one serving I then eat, lol). Then as needed, I have cut up chicken ready to go.
Some good things you can buy to eat are the pre-made burger patties, veggie or not veggie. They are easy to throw together for a quick alternative to tv dinners or sandwiches.
lacy+chk 08-17-2007, 05:46 PM I like to make chicken or fish (because single servings are easy to make - 1 filet or 1 breast), and then I usually make a bit of pasta and veggies, like frozen broccoli or peas.
Also, loaded baked potatoes...broccoli, corn, bacon, and cheese...sour cream on the side...delicious! It can all be microwaved and done in about 10 minutes! :)
holysht 08-17-2007, 05:49 PM love spaghettios and meatballs. salads. a small sandwich. soup. uh, pizza rolls? ramen.. hmm, and yea take out. but that bill can add up really quick
carol68134 08-18-2007, 11:30 AM With my schedule, I rarely have time to eat more than one meal a day, and that one meal usually turns into an energy bar and a soda in my car. But when I have time I usually just make a big meal, then distribute the extra that I don't eat into little individual-serving Gladware containers so I can bring them to work and microwave them for a quick lunch. It works well for most foods as long as seafood isn't involved (gets rubbery and gross when reheated).

Ugh... ramen... when I moved into my first apartment and had no money I literally lived off of ramen alone for weeks at a time... to this day even the smell of it makes me gag... its cheap but gets old REALLY quick
Jen113007 08-18-2007, 11:39 AM I just went and got a big steak and 4 pork chops. THat will last me for a while. I freeze them individually so I can just make one serving. I do that with chicken and pasta as well. I usually do a lot of salads and take out, but this time around I'm preggo and that stuff isn't sitting well! :)
