Wow that should be a big change from San Diego. Offutt's housing is really nice though. Have you ever been here before? I've lived here my whole life and I used to hate it but now I've really come to appreciate it. There's a lot of things to do here if you know where to look.

We're here stationed at Offutt.
If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask. We've been here 2 years as of next week.
I love it here. I'm from CA, too.

The houses on the base itself are nice. I've never been in, but they're just newer and you can tell they're nice.
We LIVED in Capehart housing but moved last October. I hated my house. We had a 4 bedroom but it was so old. What they're doing w/ the housing is tearing down a bunch and remodeling the other ones. The people that lived in the housed being torn down are being offered the remodeled houses. I'm not sure about the new people coming in. The remodeled housed are nice from what I here. The houses are attached by the garages. They only way they will remodel is if both the houses are vacant. When we moved in America First (the leasing co.) just took over. They're also letting civilians live in there now.
Anyway, I was not impressed. We do know a lot of people that are living in there, though.
You're looking to live in housing even though dh is working in Millard? I personally like the millard area. Do you want to buy a house. There's several in my neighborhood for sale. :-)
I'll have to see about pictures later. I'm going to have to transfer some to photobucket, I guess.

ETA: I just read my post and feel I should clarify on some things. I do not live in Millard. My house is in Papillion but my kids go to a Bellevue school. They are good schools. Do you have school agers?

we will probably buy a house back there in about a year or so. We cant afford first and last months rent plus deposit for a place in millard or out in town. Housing is our best bet for now( especiall since I dont want to stay with the inlaws that long). My kids are 20 months and 4 months so they wont be in school for awhile.

Well as long as we get a house that is remodeled i guess it would be okay. From what I understand we get a choice when we get back there so who knows :dunno

we did find several houses that we wanted to rent we just cant afford it. especially since we are used to our BAH being like 2 grand and moving back there its getting cut in half :wow:mumble

Thanks for all the info. I appreciate it. The more I know about it now the better :yes

You're going to have to use a little imagination w/ the kitchen. YOu see the wall, then the stove. One the other side of the stove was a small counter then the refrigerator, then another wall. On the opposite side was a sink w/ two small counters on either side. Then there was a big space where the refrig. fit if you wanted to switch sides. Now, I here where there was a space, they're puting more cabinets there. The kichen was the smallest I've ever seen. It was awful. Definately a person kitchen.

This is a little look at what the back of the house looked like. We had just moved in.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y241/BoyzX3/DSCF0500.jpg

I think I found the only thing I might miss about living in my house there. My new neighborhood is new w/ only baby trees.
Something you won't see in S. California.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y241/BoyzX3/DSCF0523.jpg

Another picture of the backyard and also a little something to look forward to.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y241/BoyzX3/DSCF0544.jpg

Another picture from the front yard, just the opposite direction. This was before Mr. Snowplow Man came by.

so we had a 4 bed. + "bonus" room, kit, dining area, LR, 2 br. The 4 bedroom was small and now I think they're making into a non conformed room.

HTH a little.
BTW. We got right in, but they hadn't started tearing down yet. Just me thinking outloud. If they're renting the houses to civilians, maybe this means they have Plenty to go around for active duty and you won't have a problem. Also, TLF is VERY close to Capehart. Are you going to work? Will you need daycare? I'm a provider so I can get you the number to the office. You're entitled to 20? hours of free PCS daycare. You'll just need the paperwork.

I do want to add that there are a couple different style of houses, not just mine. If you have only 2 children, then you'll need only a 3 bedroom, which means your living spaces will be bigger.........hopefully.

wow renting out to civilians then ya im sure we can get in right away, we already submitted our paperwork and housing said as soon as we get our orders stamped we can get a place. that there WILL be one available for us.

What is TLF? i was eventually going to get a part time job maybe. but now thinking with dh working like 12 hr days probaby not. So I dont think I would need daycare but thank you.

how are thr military drs there? Im going to have to find a dr for me and a ped for my kids. OH and an OB

Is housing safe? no crime? are the people living in it decent?

TLF is basically the place you stay when you're waiting on housing. We got here Mon. night and moved out by Friday.

The doctors here are typical military doctors. I like our ped doctor, though. She's nice.

There is a little crime in housing. Petty theft, really. Make sure you keep your doors locked and the garage locked. Personally, I never had anything stolen from me. The people living in housing are just your basic military folk. Ya know, there's quite the mixture. From really decent to the people you just don't want to hang out with.

Recruiting, I heard, was pretty tough. Those are some pretty long hours.

Like I said, I love it here. There is a lot to see if you're interested in looking. My dh got my boys hooked on dirt biking and 4 wheeling since moving here. We've seen the bridges of Madison County in Iowa. The zoo is really close. In the spring the base sells year passes for like $45. There's a childrens museum, the Strategic Air and Space Museum. There's a few malls around. Lots and Lots to do. You won't have the traffic like in San Diego. We always tell our detailer to please not send us back to San Diego, even though our family is 4 hours away from there. Our families ask when we're coming back. We always tell them NEVER. :-)

OK well we wont be in TLF we are staying with his parents in Burr, its near cook. until we move into housing, which shouldnt be more than 2 weeks.

ya i heard recruiting will be tough. Long hours are NOTHING to me. My dh is on sea duty right now and they used to work( until like a few months ago) at least 12 hrs a day. So thats nothing new. I can handle it.

Good to know that theres small crime. But not alot.

Ya I have been to the zoo and its pretty cool! Looking forward to checking out other stuff as well.

My ancestors are sorta from that area and Council Bluffs area so ive seen alot around there.

hey thanks for all the info.
