But I would say that if your boss knows your due date, common sense would tell them that when it gets close to that day they might want to make the schedule really flexible. It kind of depends on the job you do and how many employees they have that could do your job, but it would probably be a good idea to talk with your coworkers about covering your schedule if necessary and of course having a list of phone numbers in case you go into labor early and need to get it covered. But I wouldn't worry about it too much, part of your boss's job is to deal with these kind of issues and work extra if need be, that's why they get paid extra! Bex 08-19-2007, 12:26 AM honestly, jenny, trying to work UNTIL your due date is a bit silly, IMO. at least at my work, for FMLA and disability, you have to give them a specific date ahead of time that you will be going on leave. i'm due september 5th, and my last day is august 28th. i want to have a few days before i'm due to relax (if i've not had the baby before then) i guess i'm just :puzz as to why you actually want to go into labor AT work and not have time to yourself before the baby gets here. i'm not trying to be rude but i figure that most women usually want to try to take a bit of time off BEFORE delivering and that way you can take care of things at home and focus on YOU :) MichelleB 08-19-2007, 12:28 AM There's no way I would have worked up until my due date. I stopped working about a month before my due date, and it's a good thing because I went into labor 3 weeks early. I agree with Becky. fridayheather 08-19-2007, 12:36 AM I worked until the day before I had Lydia (I had her on a Saturday else I probably would've worked the day of too!) but I had a pretty easy job. I went back to work 3 weeks after I had Lydia and she went with me. Green~Mammy 08-19-2007, 01:00 AM I was AD with Darian I worked right up until the morning my OB said he is getting too big he has no more room we are inducing you today. I went in for a fetal stress test & came out four days later with a baby. I didn't tell them anything they knew I was pregnant so they knew the baby would have to come out at some point. My Mom was pissed because I worked in Boston but lived in Marlborough a good 30-45 min out of the city. So she & my DH (he was there on leave and she had flown in to help out) would drive me to work and hang out in the city. I stayed home one day because of false labor the night before and that was it until I was induced. It sucked because after I gave birth they made my DH SHOW them the reg that says how much leave I was entitled to (medical leave is different from reg leave). We had a female CO, so that HAS kids so I don't know why she was trying to say i didn't get 6 weeks of leave. (they shorted me too because for a c/s it should be 8 weeks. I ended up being out even more then that though because the day before I went back to work the baby had surgery for pyloric stenosis & my DH was out to see by then for a west pac) I think it was a bunch of bull shit that they wanted me to come in and fill out a leave chit for my med leave. My DH faxed them the info they needed from the apartment office. You CAN take leave before giving birth BUT for a civ job that can cut into the time off you get AFTER. Unless you use your reg vacation/sick days. Many women can not afford to take time off before giving birth. Jennygirl 08-19-2007, 08:06 AM Im not even eligible for my FMLA yet, so I cant stop working right now, thats why I asked. I have a month. I am not even sure when my real due date is anymore. I might just stop working at the end of the first week of october. Heather 08-19-2007, 11:14 AM I worked right up the end with both my kids. It wasn't a big deal for me. With Cory I worked on friday then there was the weekend. He was Born on July 6th and the 4th fell on sunday so monday was a holiday or I would have been at work. With Lily I worked on wednesday went into labor thursday and she was born friday morning. WA is different for maternity leave. I was entitled to 12 weeks off and John was entitled to two weeks off. Of course its non paid leave. I didn't need to give any advanced notice. Jennygirl 08-19-2007, 11:17 AM I get atleast 10, and I have to be at this job for a year. Lela 08-19-2007, 11:20 AM I went into labor the first time three months early so I was put on bed rest... I made sure my office knew and that was it... I was out until 6 weeks after I had the lil one... I would at least talk with your boss and see how she/he wants to work this... that way there is a plan in place... Ellen 08-19-2007, 11:22 AM I was in the military when I had Morissa. I worked up until the day I had her. Funny.....the day I gave birth I went to the hospital at 11 pm..... I left work early that day - around 2pm because I was exhausted - was the only time I took off during my pregnancy. wolfspawprint 08-20-2007, 11:27 AM I worked right up until I had him, but since he was about three weeks early, that was how it had happened. He was due on May 3 and I had intended to work until May 1 thinking that he would be late, and then take a couple of days off before he arrived. However, he couldn't wait. I left work on Friday with all the projects I needed to get done unfinished and I had him on Sunday. Called work on Monday and told them I wouldn't be in until July. :D DakotaCowgirl 08-20-2007, 11:38 AM When I was pregnant I fully intended on working up to that day, until I got fired (won't even go into that story). Same situation happened here and I totally agree with this statement! It's not in your job description to worry about what the boss is going to do.:wink Amanda 08-20-2007, 06:32 PM I plan to stay till I deliver ONLY because I can't afford to NOT work those last few weeks. I get the FMLA BUT I don't get paid maternity leave so I just let my boss know that the day I go into labor I will call or if I'm there to make my jobs flexible because when it's time to go I'M GOIN!!! :lol It gets rougher to have to work till the VERY end but it'll be worth it :) Jennygirl 08-20-2007, 06:46 PM I plan to stay till I deliver ONLY because I can't afford to NOT work those last few weeks. Jessica 08-20-2007, 07:24 PM I worked until a few days before I had my dd. I had planned on quiting so I had gave my boss a date and told her I would work until then if I could(i worked in a daycare with 2 year olds) or I would work past that date. I just made sure I put it in in enough time to complete my 2 weeks. I ended up staying 2 weeks after that date. The only reason why I had off a couple days before is because of the weekend and monday was a holiday and tuesday I had a doc appt. I was induced wed. |
