View Full Version : Length of Labor
Mommy2Bailey 08-19-2007, 11:53 AM So this is my 3rd baby.
My first labor was 9 hours after they started induction.
My second was 7 hours after they started induction.
What are my chances of having another short labor? How long were your previous labors?
Berkley 08-19-2007, 12:01 PM I'd say you're chances are pretty good at having one around that same time frame for the 3rd.
With Zach I went into labor then had to be admitted b/c it was preterm. They got me on meds and for about a week I had to stay there it was on and off labor then on the day I was set to go home the contractions kicked up with a vengence and had to c-section him. It was active for 8 hours.
WIth Ash there were no contractions b/c I had a c-section and with the 3rd I will having a c-section.
Kaymara 08-19-2007, 12:02 PM well Ethan was 18 hours of labor and then an emergency c-section and Ashley wa a scheduled section.
But I have friends who had short labors then long ones etc so i think it really varies
Ellen 08-19-2007, 12:03 PM 4 hours - start to finish.....I had 2 hrs of 'hard' labor, and 2 hours of pushing.
"They" say that each subsequent birth will be quicker.....so, yes, I think your next will be quicker.
BLBnJVB3 08-19-2007, 12:10 PM Breanna: 24 hours and then 46 minutes for pushing.
Johnny: 19 hours and then 1 1/2 hours of pushing.
Evan: From the moment I was induced, almost 11 hours and then about 15 minutes of pushing. If you start from when I was having reg. contraxs and finally dilating (I didn't dilate at all for over 6 hours of the induction) then it would be about 3 1/2 hours and then about 15 minutes of pushing.
So, in my experience, ya, you will have another short labor. And it will be shorter than the ones before.
Mommy2Bailey 08-19-2007, 12:12 PM I hope its not too quick that I cant get to the hospital...lol
I am scared of not knowing I am in labor. With my first I went for a regular weekly check and I was dilated to a 4. I never felt any contractions until they broke my water in the hospital.
With my second my fluid was low so they induced me.
I have never felt the starting contractions.
I had my son in about 4 hours... so I am a little nervous about not making it to the hospital whenever I have my next one. I didn't feel my contractions either... so it could have been longer and I just didn't know it.
footstepswife 08-19-2007, 12:20 PM Only labor with one and she ended with a c/s birth, then three sections after her. I labored with the second but had a section a day later.
I bet you will have a great birth!!
RockstarMom 08-19-2007, 12:26 PM My 1st was 9 hours.
2nd was under 6 hours.
3rd was OVER 12 hours, but it was the easiest- no pitocin. ;) And I had a migraine during labor and I still think it was the easiest.
kristyw94 08-19-2007, 12:28 PM 1st baby: 4 hrs 4 min hard labor and 6 hrs normal labor
2nd baby: 11 hrs hard labor and 1 hr normal labor
3rd baby: 20 hrs total....I didn't have any noticable contractions, and I slept through most of my hard labor, so I don't have an actual count
I considered normal labor, where I could still walk and talk easily, not irritated or stressed, and not in much pain. Hard labor was the amount of time I was at the hospital hooked up to crap and being monitored.
Callie 08-19-2007, 01:24 PM Start to finish was 12 hours. hard labor was about 2 hours
My first was12 hours,my second was 6 hours and this last one was about 17 hoursI think. My last labor has hands down been my hardest!:wow
Debra 08-19-2007, 03:16 PM Both of mine were short. The time is total...from the time my water broke until they were born! :)
DS was 1 hr 58 min.
DD was 36 min.
justkristin 08-19-2007, 04:46 PM 1st: 4 hrs
2nd: 2 hrs
3rd: 7 hrs
4th: 25 1/2 fucking hours. (DH was deployed to Afghanistan for this one though - so I think my stress level was a factor)
MontanaSweetie 08-19-2007, 04:50 PM My labor was 8 hours.
Daphne 08-19-2007, 05:02 PM With both my boys I was pretty much the same -
with both of them I would dialate (sp?) but not have contraction until they induced me
w/ Levi -water broke around 6am induced me around 9am after only about 3 pushes I had him in the noon hour - I had Levi 3 days before my due date
w/ Kale- water broke at 7am they induced me at 9am after 3 pushes I had him in the noon hour
with Kale I was due on December 12th - but started dialating rapidly on October 23rd they gave me steroids and put me on mag. (I HATE THAT STUFF) and rushed me full lights 2 hours away to a hospital right next to a childrens hospital. They got me stopped at 5cm but because I was so far they had to keep me there on bed rest until I delivered - finally on the morning of November 1st my water broke- he was still over a month early but because I had gestational diabeties he was a big baby weighing in at 6.1lb and was healthy
TexasArmyWife 08-20-2007, 09:12 AM I was induced at 39 weeks because she was getting too big and it took 24 hours to get her here :tired
rosebud* 08-20-2007, 09:26 AM number one 5 hours of labor ( as in at the hospital, but total labor was probably around 7 maybe)
number two about 6 hours with an induction
number three was scheduled c-section
rosebud* 08-20-2007, 09:28 AM I hope its not too quick that I cant get to the hospital...lol

Shep's Wife 08-20-2007, 05:14 PM Julie-induced at 37 weeks-it took 8 hours
Kelsey-from start to finish 1 hour, she was born 15 minutes after I got into bed
Emily-4 hours
Tori-3 hours
NavyChiefs_Wife 08-20-2007, 07:13 PM I was in labor about 3 hours and it took me about 10 minutes to push dd out.
Traci 08-20-2007, 08:21 PM 12 hours with my 1st and 6 hours with my 2nd.
MissAmyB 08-20-2007, 08:24 PM First: 9 hours of labor, 12 minutes of pushing
Second: 7 1/2 hours of labor, 16 minutes of pushing
I'd say you have a good chance of having another short labor.
