View Full Version : Car Seat Help!
wolfspawprint 08-20-2007, 05:20 PM Okay, we need to buy three convertible car seats since Anthony is starting to outgrow his infant carrier.
One for my car, one for daddy's car, and one for daycare. We mainly take my car if we are going somewhere with him. Dad really just takes him to daycare and ocassionally they go places at daycare. We don't have a huge amount of money to spend on them, but would like them to last for a while. Switching a carseat between his car and mine is not an option because he would have to drop off/reinstall it every day in my car. And swapping daddy's seat out to Adrienne's car would result in me having to take that carseat home everyday in my car. Or a lot of seat swapping/reinstalling for the three of us.
So how would you handle it? Would you buy a more expensive seat for my car and then get lesser seats for the other two?
While I am at it, brand recommendations? I've been reading other 's reviews, but am interested in ya'lls opinions on the convertibles.
harrisonsdream 08-20-2007, 05:23 PM can you get one that has bases you can buy separately and then just transfer the seat to other cars?
wolfspawprint 08-20-2007, 05:38 PM I don't think they do that with convertible seats. That is what we do currently with his infant seat. Daady has a base, I have a base, and the carseat itself has a place so you don't have to use the base, that Adrienne uses.
harrisonsdream 08-20-2007, 05:40 PM ahh okay wasn't sure if they had that for the convertible ones. good luck hun
Teresa 08-20-2007, 05:42 PM The Evenflo Triumph is a really good car seat (gets good ratings too). We used one with my daughter and she loved it! You can buy 3 of them for the price of one Britax :yes The only downfall is that they only go up to 40lbs.
*tina* 08-20-2007, 05:46 PM They just upped the max weight of the Triumph to 50 lbs, I loved ours, but my son is so tall, he's almost over the top of it already.
mossey2000 08-20-2007, 06:28 PM get the cosco scenera. He can still rf in it. 50 bucks a piece
Debra 08-20-2007, 06:33 PM For me personally, I would buy all Britax carseats if I had the money. ;) If I didn't, I'd go with 2 of the Evenflo Triumph 5 & get a Britax Boulevard for your car. JMO!
~Jess~ 08-20-2007, 10:54 PM This is what Landen has and ella too.http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_7/602-0907074-4503839?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B000LP8344 Ella has the girlie one but they are they same. I HIGHLY reccomend this carseat. We were in a bad roll over car accident and it saved Ella's life. After the accident our insurance paid for new carseats so we got ella's the same one she has and got landen the one in the link for when he's out of his carrier. Seriously I love this carseat and the price is great.
rcwant2be 08-20-2007, 10:58 PM having volunteered at child safety seat checks...it's not so much the price that you need to worry about, rather that the seat is properly installed, properly fits the child, & the child is properly fastened.
state farm insurance is good about offering free seat checks periodically at their offices, along w/ local law enforcement and community organizations.
read reviews the reviews & pick seats in your price range.
aelsass 08-20-2007, 11:02 PM I have the girl version too of this one and LOVE IT> This is what Landen has and ella too.http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_7/602-0907074-4503839?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B000LP8344 Ella has the girlie one but they are they same. carol68134 08-20-2007, 11:06 PM Don't know if this is an option for you, but I used to just have one car seat and when I dropped my daughter off at daycare in the morning I would leave the carseat there, so they could use it if they needed to or if daddy or grandpa picked my daughter up they would have it. The seats are pretty easy to pop in and out once you get used to it.
For brand names, both of my carseats (her infant one and the convertible one) were Graco. Pretty much all brands have really strict safety requirements so I don't think there is a lot of variation between brands. I would suggest not getting one that has the armrest though. Just after my daughter turned 2, she learned how to wriggle out of the belt and climb on top of the armrest - big safety hazard!
Chevy_Gurl 08-21-2007, 01:52 AM We have the Evenflo triumph and just switch it between everyones cars. PITA but since we can't do more then one carseat right now we make it work.
DakotaCowgirl 08-21-2007, 06:21 AM Get a convertable car seat for the car you are going to use the most. Get an infant carier for the other two places with just an extra base.
As for name brands, keep safety in mind and comfort. We got a cheaper one for the vehicle that we don't use as much but is safe. Check safety reports and make the decision that works best for you. Don't get something because it costs more.
why don't you just bring him (and his carseat) to daycare, leave that carseat at daycare, then daddy can pick up him and the carseat?
ETA: nevermind, i just re-read your post.... :(
