View Full Version : Just curious about opinions of guys who go without shirts
Aunt Sponge 08-21-2007, 11:38 AM I, personally, find it to be just unecessary, for one thing. But more and more lately I'm finding it to be lewd.
My kids don't need to see shirtless men on tv or on magazines at the supermarket - I'm trying to teach them decency and here's everyone else out there from construction workers to models teaching them the opposite.
Anyone else feel the same way?
If they're hot, I say why not! LOL
But then again I dont have kids, but if I did I might feel differently
girl20racer 08-21-2007, 11:46 AM If they're hot, I say why not! LOL
:lmao
DD see's daddy with his shirt off IN the house, so I don't think she'd think it was weird to see it outside of the home either.
tifflovezyou 08-21-2007, 11:49 AM *I* personally dont have a problem with it. My DD's Daddy always went shirtless. BUT-- like anything, theres a time and place for it. I don't think people should be walking around stores like that.
harrisonsdream 08-21-2007, 11:51 AM i dont' have a problem with it. if a guy is just hanging out outside his house who cares or if a celebrity is on a magazine who cares, if a guy now is being lewd about it or using it to be suggestive then i might have a problem. i have a question...do you get upset when you see women in bikinis on magazines or jogging in sports bras on the side of the road? i do agree with tiff though that they shouldn't walk around the store like that unless the store is on the beach

Yeah, I agree. There is a time and a place. If I see a random shirtless guy eating out or shopping in public, I am always like "WTF?" but if I see someone in their own front yard or just stopping to get gas or something I don't think much of it.
Thinking about it tho, it does seem a little weird that it would even be okay for a guy to be in public half naked. :giggle

Thank you! Yes, feel the same way.
Pebbles 08-21-2007, 11:58 AM If the dude has a nice body, I don't mind. Some of the dudes around here walk around shirtless showing stuff I don't need/want to see :pukey I'm talking beer bellies here.
Mae Mae 08-21-2007, 12:00 PM I've never considered it to be offensive, but I am going to try and take notice when I'm in public now. (although i live in nyc NOTHING makes my do a double-take).
I dont have a problem with it on TV, magazine covers, people mowing the lawn, etc.
I DO have a problem with it in stores (unless you are at beach) just because it is trashy.
I will say, I was ina restaurant once and this like 2 year old kid stripped down to his pull up... and they just let him sit there, that I find offensive, just as I would find an adult in their underwear to be so :lol

:yes There are places for it and places that aren't for it. I actually really don't care about it in most places. Growing up in HI I saw so many guys walking around without shirts on and really I didn't see the big deal. I think of it as me walking around with a bathing suit on. I went into stores after going to the beach or a pond with shorts and my bathing suit top on and it wasn't a big deal. :dunno But that's just me. ;) I wouldn't do it here though lol just in HI. :D
Mommy2Bailey 08-21-2007, 12:05 PM Nope doesnt bother me at all. You cant shield kids from everything so why not pick a bigger battle?
=Mrs.AiNokeA= 08-21-2007, 12:08 PM Nope doesnt bother me at all. You cant shield kids from everything so why not pick a bigger battle?
Exactly :yes Might as well never take them to a public place to go swimming if it's going to bug you. :shrug
MontanaSweetie 08-21-2007, 12:21 PM :lmao

Agreed. My DH doesn't wear a shirt alot of the time when he's in the house.
Miss B Hav'n 08-21-2007, 12:43 PM There is a time and place - in the privacy of your own home, at the beach, etc I have no problem with it. However, I don't think it is appropriate in stores, etc.
kristyw94 08-21-2007, 01:05 PM I hate it! I don't even let my boys run around the house without shirts. It's a flipping double standard and that in itself makes it wrong. If women can't run around without shirts because it's socially unacceptable, then men can't either. Not only that, but I believe your body is only to be shared with the one person you truely love, not the whole world, and thus I don't love these ppl, so I don't want to see them without their shirts on.

What if they are at the pool or beach do they swim with shirts on? Just curious. :)
Heather 08-21-2007, 01:21 PM ehh, I guess I have bigger things to worry about. Its never bothered me. Its been so hot in our house the past two days my son hasn't had his shirt on and for that matter my daughter hasn't either.
Now if I am out shopping or at a restaurant and I saw a shirtless guy that'd be a different story.
harrisonsdream 08-21-2007, 01:23 PM What if they are at the pool or beach do they swim with shirts on? Just curious. :)
i was going to ask the same question
Berkley 08-21-2007, 01:56 PM In a store no but I thought most stores had a no shirt no shoes no service policy anyway. I can't say I've ever seen a guy shirtless shopping. Other situations I could really care less.
inlovewithjon 08-21-2007, 02:00 PM with my df...i don't care if doesn't wear a shirt around me....i don't mind seeing his sexiness....but i don't want to rest of the world to see it too. Guys mowing lawns while it's 100000 degrees outside...that i can understand....but in the store? whatever happened to "no shoes, no shirt, no service"???
brentscrystal 08-21-2007, 02:15 PM It's a good thing that it doesn't offend me, we live in a beach community... I'd be perpetually offended. (even though there are instances that I'd rather vomit than look at some of the old guys with their gray hair covered beer bellies! :giggle)
Traci 08-21-2007, 02:20 PM I don't have a problem with it. DH and my son both go shirtless in the house. I don't let DS do it outside unless he is swimming. I don't pay much mind to TV or magazines. IMO men always have their shirt off for that.:giggle I don't want to go shopping or out to eat and see some guy with their shirt off. Hot or not!
Aunt Sponge 08-22-2007, 07:50 AM Interesting.
Someone asked me if i find women in underwear/bikinis lewd.
Yes, actually. I'm bothered by the barely clad women who grace cheesy display signs next to the infant section at my local department store to advertise for bras and panties...Same thing with the barely-clad male displays.
Bikinis - no - they're proper bathing attire, but there is such a thing as 'too little' .. Which, being in the middle of the country around here, there is absolutely none of.
As per me not liking guys to go without shirts.
Though most people don't consider the male physique to be the same as the female physique - I do, which is why it irks. me.
Women can't go without anything on because it's lewd and improper.
likewise - I wouldn't want my husband to go without a shirt on in public - or on a bilboard. But, then again, I bet no one else would want that either. :giggle
mrsjones0520 08-22-2007, 08:01 AM DH will go shirtless around the house, when he sleeps, or sometimes in the morning or right before bed at his parent's house, but that's it. I personally don't have a problem with men doing it in their houses, or yards, but it's rediculous to do it in the supermarket or in public. If you're at the lake or pool, then yesh, that's ok, but I think guys should put their shirts back on if they need to go into the gas station. I wouldn't walk into the shoppette in my bikini and towel
Becca 08-22-2007, 08:52 AM I'm bothered by the barely clad women who grace cheesy display signs next to the infant section at my local department store to advertise for bras and panties...Same thing with the barely-clad male displays.
Doesn't bother me either. Actually...I kinda like it :giggle Muscles make me all warm and fuzzy :D
BUT - there are some men out there that I'd rather not look at shirtless.
As far as my daughter - it's just life. Men are ok to go without shirts, women aren't. Just another CRUEL FACT in the battle of the sexes. :dunno I really don't see what the big deal is. Do I think I should shield her from shirtless men?? :rofl No.
As far as underwear ads and scantily clothed women, the thing that bothers me about THAT isn't that they're half naked, it's that they're "beautiful", and that is not the image of "beauty" that I want to impress upon my gorgeous child who just happens to have the genes working against her in the "rail-thin" department. It's going to be hard enough to teach her to love her body in today's society, ads like that just make it more difficult for her to believe that it really is ok to be a healthy size 12. But geez look at me talk - queen of the jacked up body image. :no
Krisha 08-22-2007, 08:57 AM There is a time and a place to be shirtless IMO.

AMEN TO THAT!!
And Becca! You crazy girl I saw you on WOF and you look fantastic!
KevzQueen 08-22-2007, 11:37 AM I don't get put off by seeing skin. I don't care to see some hairy, beer-bellied man w/o a shirt on, but that's just because it's not good for my eyes.

Very well said, Becca! I agree with you completely! Like others said, I will chose my battles. There are much more important things to worry about than a man going without a shirt!
carol68134 08-22-2007, 02:19 PM I really don't mind... then again, if everybody walked around naked it wouldn't bother me! I don't think there is anything embarassing or wrong about the human body. But that's just my opinion. I used to work in a strip club and it kinda desensitized me to it.
However, somebody brought up the subject of the ads in lingerie departments, and I do have a problem with that. I have struggled with an eating disorder most of my life and don't want my daughter to have the same issues. Not that the media is totally to blame, but it definitely plays a part in screwing up girls' body image. I'm guessing they don't have similar pictures in the plus-size department? It would be nice if people of all shapes and sizes could be portrayed, but i doubt I'll see the day when that happens.
USNFFG52 08-22-2007, 02:25 PM Well as a man myself, I do not run around in public without a shirt on. In the house, thats different because I am in our house. I do not understand the allure with it all really.
harrisonsdream 08-22-2007, 02:26 PM i do agree with those who said that it does set up a false ideal.
I, personally, feel that if guys are allowed to walk around completely shirtless, women should be as well. If you ever see some crazy chick running on about equality and shirtless at a non-shirtless beach, that'll probably be me. lol. Kidding. Maybe.
mara_jade81 08-22-2007, 05:43 PM I've been going to the track and running, I take my children with me. Lately there have been several guys coming and running without shirts on... Let's just say they don't have the perfect physique.
I don't find it lewd but yes unnecessary. I'd rather not look at some portly fellow jogging around the track without a shirt on. I keep mine on, they should keep theirs on :lol
Ashnbri 08-22-2007, 09:46 PM I think it is tacky but don't see a huge problem with it..it is just a body and it is beautiful.
