Toddlers wearing nail polish?

Not on their hands, but the feet? I think its cute. Val has a light, light pink I put on her toes when she's been a good girl.

:teehee My daughter has her toenails painted red.. I think its cute on little girls as a 'fun' thing. When she was a toddler, like 2-3 years old.. I used to paint her toenails pink, she had little fat legs and pink toes.. So cute :wub I know some dont like it, but I have no problem with it..

I don't have kids so i think my opinion will change after I do but, I have friends that have a 4 and 6 year old. Every once in a while they will let the girls wear a very light pink polish, and kind of became a reward of the little to be like her older sister and wear nail polish when she would stop sucking her thumb. Seemed to be a good idea, but they had already decided they could wear polish...

I just painted Paige's nails a really pretty kind of shimmery neutral color - she freakin' LOVED it - and then I thought...wow - I wonder how many people are going to see that and think I'm a crappy mom :lol

On the fingers, not so much.. Not on a toddler anyway.. Lauren had her's done a few times when she was littler..But she sucks her thumb, so I dont want the paint in her mouth.. :sigh

I don't see a problem with it. We don't paint very often but sometimes, on special occasions, she might get some pink polish on. I think it pales in comparison to having her face painted up like a grown woman in a pageant...

Oh well you have a kindred spirit here on that front! I cannot stand pageants that have them painted up. Why can't a pageant for a 2 year old be just the 2 year old in all her natural beauty, they don't NEED make-up. Personally, I don't feel pageants should allow make-up until the kids are at least 13. I guess maybe that's conservative but all that goop all over those little baby faces just makes me sick!

I agree about the pagents. It makes me a little queezy to know old gross men are staring at those little girls in a weird way. They are made to look like sex objects not children. :no :sigh

I say why not to the nail polish. Just a light color for special occasions or as a reward of some sort.

Make up..NO WAY. Not until my (hypothetical) girls are 16.

I'll agree with you on the pageant thing. But, just a "normal" lil' girl I don't see a problem with it. They just want to be like mommy. They usually only want it, if they see you do it. Now, I don't have a girl, I have a boy, but he even wants his done, when I'm doing mine. I appease him with a little clear on the toes.

That too... I think if they had a professional there that did make-up for each across the board with just blush, light light mascara & super light lipstick from 13 to say 16. I probably sound like an old fuddy duddy! :lol Ah well, none at all until at least 13 and then just a smidge! :wink

13 is a good age. I agree. Im all for keeping our girls "little". After 13 then a little bit would be ok.

And EVERYONE knows im a makeup advocate! Im 100% down with make-up. But as with anything, theres a time and a place for it, and it isnt on little girls.

I agree - the face of a 2 year old is so precious, and so innocent - and when you cake it with makeup, it just completely strips that beauty.

Personally, I think 16 is a little bit of a stretch, but ONLY because my mom wouldn't even let me wear mascara until I was in 9th grade, and even then it was only CLEAR mascara :lol I think 8th grade probably for the basics - and then only approved colors by mom. :giggle Hopefully by then I'll be working at her school so she won't be able to pull the "I'll just wait til I get to school and get all gussied up" thing.

A little light colored nail polish is ok :). I would paint Emily's fingers and toes with a pale pink or a clear glitter. She would want to look pretty, and it was fine by me. It's not like I was using hooker red or something :lmao

DD has always loved having her nails and toe nails done. I always put llight colors on. As a back to school treat her and I went and had pedicures and manicures done on this past Sat. I think I have started something with her that I am not going to be able to stop. She loved it. She had a light pink put on her nails.(FYI my DD is 9 yrs.old)

Sounds like something right up her alley. This was the first time I'd ever done it, because she'd never sit still long enough before. She really loves it, and even just now I glanced over to where she's sitting and she's still admiring her toes :rofl

I was such a tomboy when I was a kid, I get some sick twisted pleasure out of having such a girlie girl :lol I'm sure I'll be sorry when it comes time for school clothes and dating and the like...but... (L) She's the bestest :) Part of me hopes I have another girl because I really love being a mommy to my little girlie girl - but another part of me hopes it's a boy, just because then I'll only have one princess to deal with :rofl

I've painted Breanna's nails lots of times. My only issue is if the polish color is really dark. Like one time she wanted a dark purple that was so dark it was almost black. Maybe for Halloween but not everyday on my then 5 yr. old.

As far as pageants: I would love to get Breanna involved but am completely against the way the girls get all dressed up; make-up (more make up than I have probably ever worn in my life), outfits that can cost in the thousands, and then the hair, oh my, I've watched pageant shows where they actually put extensions (sp?) in the girl's hair, and even saw one mom put colored contacts in her daughter's eyes. These were all little little girls. If I remember correctly one mom said it takes 3 hours to get her daughter ready for one pageant. That is nuts.

At first I didn't like it but after my daughter asked me to put a color on her I actually didn't mind. Both my girls 6 and 3 wear it on their toes and hands and in fact my oldest paints her and her sister's hands and feet. They go with me to the nail place and get their hands done with a massage. We actually have that as "us" time once every 2 weeks. Some disagree but I see no harm.

I paint Lilys toes and fingers. She loves it. On her fingers I use a light color that wears off in a day or so. She hasn't figured that out yet :giggle even when Cory was small I'd paint his toe nails. I didn't see anything wrong with it. He wanted it done when I was doing my own and he was just 2 or so. I don't care what color she picks for her toes its generally something cute and pink but the other day she picked blue, and because she actually said mommy I want blue and pointed to the right color I let her... lol sorry I was proud she's learning her colors, but for her fingernails its always a really soft color or clear.

DH wasn't too crazy about it at first, but he didn't really care TOO much. i think it looks cute on their toes. i haven't painted their fingernails yet and probably won't until they're quite a bit older.

l would if I had a little girl. For a little boy, no. But if my "hypothetical" (to borrow Kara's term) daughter wanted to pick out any sort of color I would let her. But no makeup until high school. No exceptions. She can wear pink lipgloss in middle school, but nothing else. And I will volunteer at schools so that nothing behind the scenes will go on. I remember how I was in high school. :teehee

My daughter loves getting her nails painted. I think as a special treat I am going to take her to the salon with me right before her daddy comes home.
As far as the make up thing goes... I have a confession! When my friend was out from Canada, we went to Sephora. I let Elly buy a lip gloss. She loved it. She just wanted a little bag to carry out of the store. Of course she promptly lost it, but for that day it was fun. I like giving her these rewards rather than reward her with food (unlike my parents).

I don't have a problem with polish on the toes or fingers. My DD loves to get her nails done! I have a friend who owns her own shop. She lets Ashlynn go in there for a free polish change. I always let Ashlynn pick the color she wants to wear. Usually she picks a glittery pink but once she did pick neon green. :shock But polish never stays on her nails for very long...usually only about 24 hours. I don't know why but for some reason it just does not stick to her nails, regardless of the brand. It comes off in the tub or when she washes her hands. :dunno

I think it's cute! I think they look adorable with fingers and toenails painted. I know I couldn't wait to paint DD's toes. I waited until she was old enough to sit still and got flashdry to help it dry fast. She LOVES getting her toes painted. I paint them a VERY pale pink, and if u don't look super close, u can't even tell they're painted. I personally don't do her fingers yet because I didn't think I'd like it on someone as young as her. But I saw another little girl her age with her finger nails painted and it was freaking adorable. I still won't do it on DD though cuz she still always sticks her fingers in her mouth and chews on them...
