So I'm staying about 2 hours north of SD at the moment and my son has been seeing a ped here. His six month appt will be his last with his current PCM which I am a bit upset about because he's a great doctor. This means I need to find a good pediatrician in SD. Anyone have any recommendations? We are on Tricare Prime so I'm not sure if I'd have to see one at the Naval hospital or if I can take him to a civilian doctor. Any help is much appreciated. TIA!

If you're prime you can see a civilan doctor. You can go to: https://www.triwest.com/triwest/unauth/apps/OnlineProviderDirectory/default.aspx and search. We live north of Temecula and that's what I did. I searched for some close by and then went and checked out each office, asked a lot of questions. Several got crossed off quick due to their front desk staff and/or hours that they were open. Good luck to you!

Yeah, you can see a civi doc w/ prime b/c the docs at the hospy are all filled up. I know what you mean about finding a good one, it's so hard! Going on recommendations is definitely the easiest way to find somebody good. I finally found one I like, but he's very busy, as they all are nowadays, right? His name is Bretten Pickering, he's at UCSD Medical Group right next to Sharp Children's Hospital (off of Mesa College Drive), so it's a pretty central location. Don't know how far it'd be from you. You can see a civie on Prime.. My DD goes to Dr. Pamela Atienza, in Eastlake. We really like her so far!

we are in Poway area and go to Dr. REndler...hes great and takes tricare prime.

My kids go to Sandra Perez she is in national city. She is a great doctor.

I just relocated our prime back to San Diego and was told that ALL active duty families have to be seen at a MTF.
