I took classes through University of Maryland University College. It was expensive because it was part of University of Maryland and I was classified as an out of state student. I also took classes at University of Phoenix. Both were good schools IMO. UMUC was more traditional, semester system. Phoenix was 6 week courses but the same curriculum as the semester system. It was very rigorous and you had a set # of hours you had to be online and posting and a # of words you had to post. The cost was about the same.

I take my classes online through Park University. Its not too bad depending on who you use as your campus. I use one of the AFBs as my campus and I get a discount that way. But you have to be careful that way cause some of the campuses require you to attend class. They also have an online campus but they are a little more expensive... its www.park.edu if you want to look into it.
I plan on going to the University of Maryland to get my paralegal cert when I am done with my BS in management.

All the online classes I have taken were through my college. My FMIL is taking a class in classroom management through University of Phoenix, but what she needs it for (a promotion at work) does not care where she take the class, as long as she gets the credits.

I hated Phoenix because there was so much group work and I hate having to rely on others like that, I find out I end up doing most of the work and get stuck with procrastinators. UMUC was a nice school but too expensive if you don't get resident tuition. Hubby and I both go to American Military University and we LOVE it, its mostly military people. They have a grant that provides undergrads with free books which is awesome. I am very impressed with the scope of their history program, they have a wide variety of history courses rather than just 3-4 each semester.

Look into a local community college. The classes are much cheaper and it's a great way to build up basic credits if you want to transfer to a four year.

I would suggest filling out the FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov) regardless of whether you know which school you want to go to or not so that you can get the financial aid ball rolling. You can go back in later and add in specific schools.

Also see if they have a miltary discount.. often they will waive the non-resident fee (if applicable) or offer a discount. We get free tuition at the CC here because of my husband being military. :tu

Also make sure you take very general classes (like english 101, psychology, biology, us history, etc) because you run the risk of classes not transferring until you know what degree you want or what four year school you want to attend.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

I agree with Rileysmom to look into Community colleges first. The cost is alot less. I currently am taking online classes but this is for my MBA. I did all of my undergraduate work in an actual classroom. I also did attend a community college for all of my basic prerequisite classes then transfered to a State University to earn my Bachelors. You definitely have to be organized and very disciplined to do an online degree. But to answer your question I am getting my Masters from University of Phoenix.

talk to your navy college and they've got a list of universities that offer online programs not to mention sometimes they have a campus near you.
