:thinkingI'm really thinking about getting a job on base when we get settled in Florida.. I'm pretty new to the military life so I was just wondering what it's like, how it's different from working any other job, etc. I was thinking about working at the child development center if I could get it! Thanks!!

I personally don't think it's any better or worse than any other job. I personally get a lot of officers, or high enlisted, who are high on theirselves and think they should get priority over the rest of the world. So you still get good and bad customers, your boss will probably suck :giggle and there will be good and bad days. The benefits are, if you live on base there's like NO gas money! :D

Yup Kiwi basically said it all! LOL!!! I like my job, it's fun, there are people who come in all high and mighty and my boss is a lazy slob who likes to make me do her job, but that's no big surprise.

Other than the fact that you have to pull your ID out to get on base and you get a CAC card... it's no different than any other job really... except that where I work they are VERY VERY easy going about the fact that Vinny comes home soon and then leaves VERY shortly after that for deployment and I don't know when he has duty and when I want off yet and they aren't pushing me on the dates. They are just letting it kind of go with the flow right now.

When I was still working, I worked full-time for a civilian contractor processing paperwork for ships that were in the drydocks. I LOVED MY JOB and miss it everyday. :(

Everyone that I know that works here has a CAC card. I guess not all bases are the same, but I see most everyone on base has a CAC card.

Getting a CAC card depends on what kind of job you have and if you need access to a government computer.

There are several types of jobs on base. There are DOD civilian, DOD contractor, and there are NAF (Non-Appropriated Funds).
