With all the people wanting babies why choose this?? This isnt even a scared kid. Its a 20 year old woman. It is just so disgusting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City police are investigating a 20-year-old woman who allegedly tried to flush her newborn son down the toilet at a McDonald's restaurant after giving birth in the restroom.

Both the baby and the mother, a Kansas City resident who works at the McDonald's, were being treated Tuesday at a Kansas City hospital. Police said the child is expected to survive.

"Fortunately, the baby's fine," Capt. Rich Lockhart said. "The baby's at the hospital getting treatment. The mother's at the hospital getting treatment. We're investigating it."

The incident occurred about 12:50 p.m. Monday. Lockhart said workers became concerned after the woman didn't return from the restroom. The workers quickly called paramedics after checking on the woman, and paramedics were able to revive the baby.

No charges had been filed as of Tuesday afternoon. Lockhart said police have interviewed workers at the McDonald's and planned to talk to the mother once she's able to speak to them.

"She's being treated, and we haven't been able to talk to her to get her side of all of this," Lockhart said.

Police will then consult with prosecutors to determine what, if any, charges will be filed.

Lockhart said the woman was 32-weeks pregnant when she gave birth in the restroom. She allegedly told paramedics that she tried to flush the baby down the toilet several times, he said.

The child was still in the toilet and wasn't breathing when paramedics arrived, he said. They administered CPR on the child to get him breathing again, Lockhart said.

The paramedics then rushed the baby and mother to the hospital. Police were notified about 2:30 p.m. Monday, Lockhart said.

"The mother told paramedics that she didn't know she was pregnant," he said.

The newborn has been placed in the temporary custody of children's services, Lockhart said. It was not clear whether the woman has other children, he said.

John Jelinek, who owns and operates the McDonald's restaurant, said he was "truly shocked by the unfortunate incident."

"The safety and well-being of my customers and employees is always my top priority," Jelinek said in a written statement Tuesday afternoon. "As this is a pending police matter, it would be inappropriate to discuss further."

Someone who is extremely obese may not know they are pregnant. This unfortunately, is not the first time I have heard of someone trying to dispose of a baby because they did not know.

I stand by my stance of bullshit. By 32 weeks she had to be feeling that baby move. I dont care how "obese" you are. You can feel rolls and kicks. I know obese people. I am friends with a couple of obese people. They could feel their baby's.

Ya but someone that young may not know what a kicking baby feels like. I am sure your obese friends KNOW they feel the baby because they had proper care and know they are pregnant.

This girl said she did not know, which leads me to believe she had NO prenatal care so no idea she was even pregnant and no idea what a baby kick feels like or even what to expect.

I am not saying this girl was right, because in NO WAY was she at all.

She is 20. If you havent had a period for 32 damn weeks you should know something was up. She is either really stupid or was in denial.

Even if you arent obese you might not feel it, if the baby is under the ribs it would be painful and tight :dunno

I hope they send her to prison so the prisoners can have some fun with her.

Even if she didn't know she was pregnant, why the hell would she even flush the toilet if she saw it was a baby?

Exactly. Why try to flush the baby? If she honestly didnt "know" why do that? Why try to get rid of the baby?

If she did had it though? If she really didnt gain weight?

Honestly i could see why should did it ( no i didnt do that) the thoughts that could run through your head with all of that happening and going on, fear takes over and you panic. Yes it is very sad that she did that to the baby, but the emotions are insane and what your mind goes through at the very moment anything could happen. She could have honestly killed herself because of that happening. cant really judge because its not just one of those "things" oh it happened kind of experience.

I do feel for the baby though and im very glad she survived and i cant say that i cant believe that she did that, its more of a im sad to see that she did that.

okay, theres another thing that was wrong. If she didn't know she was pregnant, then okay. But once you see a baby in the toilet, theres your give away, flush it once (which is WRONG), maybe.. several times, that's intent. She probably KNEW and wanted to rid the situation.

And when the pain didnt go away? When it kept coming back? How does a baby feel like heartburn? I just dont understand. I am not trying to start any shit but I just dont get it. I think its a cop out for a pregnancy you (not you Nicole just general you) dont know what to do aboutl

My honest though is that she knew and didnt want to accept it for whatever reason.

You got me, it was just hot pain right in the middle of the rib cage. The pain just came and went. I had very bad back pain when in labor, it wasnt like oh wow my crotch is going to fall out or my vagina is going to explode. It felt like someone was going to break me in half back pain, i also had to go to the bathroom A LOT.

Ill be honest here, when i had her i thought of running away, i tried to clean her with toilet paper to get out of the bathroom...yah that didnt work too well considering she was still attached and toilet paper doesnt do much :giggle Im glad i can laugh about it now a year later. I mean its just a big situation where you dont know what to do anything goes through your mind, especially if you weren't ready for kids. I thought my husband was going to kill me and hated me...he had to tell me over and over he was happy and didnt hate me.

Nothing against you either, just stating the other side(no im not all for baby flushing). Ive been told i was in denial quite a few times so its nothing, no offense taken.

But you did the right thing Nicole. You owned up and accepted your responsibility. You didnt try to flush her. Being scared and thinking about running is one thing. She could have had that baby and then just left. Hopefully someone would have found the baby in time. Trying to kill the baby is another. I had No idea you gave birth in a bathroom.

Portsmouth naval in the emergency waiting room bathroom diagnosed with a UTI :woot

Being a parent is a hard thing to own up to. I know people say dont have sex if you dont want kids, it happens though. At least she didnt leave the place and toss it in a dumpster no one would have found that poor baby.

Idk it seems she panicked to me...who thinks a baby can fit down a toilet? If big turds clog a toilet...a baby?

Ok, I agree that what she did was WRONG.

Just wanted to point out that I had my period for six months of my pregnancy. It was lighter than usual, but there nonetheless. My doc said some people just do.

The baby was 32 weeks. He must have been tiny. I know Grayce was born at 35 weeks, she was TINY and still is.

I am going to just be honest and I don't mean to offend anyone(Nicole:)) but after having 2 kids I just can't see how you can be pregnant for 9 months and not know.I am not trying to start anything. I just really don't get it. I hear about it and I know it happens but I just can't grasp it.

I could never understand it even from a scared teen, but from a 20 yr old? She needs to be nearly drowned daily while serving a very long prison term. I am a pro-choice person and if she didn't want the child she should have either had an abortion or given it up to someone who would love it, not tried to kill it!
