When did you tell your boss you were pregnant? I work at a school and we start work again on Tues. Should I tell right away (I'm about 14 weeks) or wait until I'm further along. Do they require so much notice before a maternity leave? Probably, I guess I could read the handbook, if I can find it....:sigh

I told my boss probably about a week after I found out. I was like 7 weeks at the time I think but I had a horrible time with all day sickness almost immediately until I was about 7 1/2 months so I ended up quitting probably like a month or two after I told him because it just got to be too much to be at work all day.

I don't think it is required to tell them but the pregnancy books I have read recommend doing it at around 12 weeks because it won't be too much longer before you start showing and they are going to figure it out anyway. It'll look much better if you just tell them.

your employer cannot question you about your reproductive status. you also can't be fired for being/getting pregnant. however, this has been challenged in recent years, by parochial schools who've "done the math" & realized a teacher was preggo before she got married.

I told my boss the monday after I found out...since I work in daycare with ALL women it was more of a celebration and so far the only one who seems to treat me a little different is my boss. She's lowered my hours or cut them out all together some weeks...yet she's fine with when i'm there putting me in the hardest room :duh she didn't have that problem though when I first told her. And honestly she's been more understanding of my absences..so other than the hours she's done well.

You dont have to I believe, but I did when I was 8 wks. I dont like hiding anything, especially when I looked like a weirdo wearing morning sickness bands on my arms everyday :lol

I told mine the day I found out. They had heard we were trying and have been very supportive! I wanted them to know ahead of time so I can go to my appts without question.

I had to tell right away so that I could be pulled off of field duty. No chemicals for the baby!
