Putting this here in case it becomes a debate (politics can do that). A comment made in another thread today has me wondering about the actual make-up of the board........so

I honestly don't know. I believe what I believe. I don't know that it falls under one of them.

I'm Conservative on a lot of social issues, but mostly Liberal. I'm a registered Democrat and I've never voted any other way.

Other!
I don't see myself as one or the other. I'm definitely not liberal and I'm definitely not conservative.

I fall into the conservative category, but I am middle of the way on a lot of things.

I've been refered to as a "tree hugging liberal" by my mother. I like my tree hugging ways.

Liberal. I come from a family of republicans, so its odd for me to be so liberal and democratic, but that's how I am! :)

I am a libertarian. I guess it is what can most closely describe my political, socioeconomic standing. I am a member of the green party.

I put other because I'm on the liberal side socially and moderate side with other things. I'm not registered as any party but I generally vote democrat.

They all have their faults. No party is perfect. I definately just go by the issue.. and what the party is going to do about that issue.

I put other because I see good and bad on both parties I dont fall more one way or the other - my dad says Im liberal, but thats because I dont agree with him that woman are the only ones who should cook and clean, should not use dirty language ....and bla bla bla...My dad is a very old fashion conservative (we really but heads at his way of thinking) - but I am not a "tree hugger either" - I will vote for the issue at hand not the party - I vote for the person (which is how it should be) not the party

None, I'm not into politics and I don't really like labels. I'm not sure how someone else would "classify" my views.

Same here. Some things are just too complex to fit into two categories, especially ones which are so extreme by definition

I agree... but I tend to usually be more on the liberal side.

I'm an other. I too look at individual issues. In all aspects of life, I choose to not label myself, I can see all/most sides of any issue.

I don't consider myself EITHER anymore. My mom and I were talking about how unfortunate it is that there are so many political labels. I don't fit in with the conservatives anymore, and I don't completely fit in with the liberals either. So. I'm just one independant mutt - and quite thrilled to be one.

It depends on how you DEFINE liberal and conservative.

If you define conservative the way it is supposed to be defined when it comes to government, I am most definitely conservative. SMALL GOVERNMENT. I don't want the government liberally imposing the will of ANYONE on our lives because of their personal opinions. I want the government to be conservative with how much they try to control and stick to the Constitution instead of the bible/koran/torah/book of shadows/insert religious text here or level of annoyance someone has.

If you define conservative the way it is defined now... All of these instant religious values that people assign to "morality" to decide who gets what rights, making laws telling people who they can and can't marry, what they can do with their bodies, what God the country recognizes in it's pledge, what people can WEAR, disregard for the environment in favor of supporting big business... Yeah, I am not that kind of "conservative".

You can be conservative AND liberal, if you define them both the right way. Liberal means favorable to progress and reform in political or religious arenas... Well, I favor some serious progress and reform in the political arena in this country, back to REAL conservative values. So, I am a liberal that wants our country to be conservative the way conservative was meant to be.

I am also Republican, and absolutely fed up with my party. I do not identify with them at all.

Could my answer be anymore confusing? :P

I consider myself a liberal Republican. Funny, huh? I guess I lean as far to the right as I can and still have conservative/Republican beliefs.

I guess this comes from having a Dem. dad and Rep. mom.

BLBnJVB3
08-31-2007, 05:49 PM
I put other. I have beliefs that fall under both. So far I've only voted Republican but wouldn't be against voting Democrat if I liked the person running and felt he/she is better than the Republican.

Both parties have betrayed its core values...
I want the government to get out of my bedroom, and back into the boardroom,
I am against knee jerk and micro issue legislation
Keep religion in the home, not in schools or government
Give teachers the power to whack our kids when the kids misbehave
I want them to spend less, and tax only what is nessacary,
I want the federal government to step aside and give states back the right to decide, except where I disagree with what the state has done failed to do.

I generally vote democrat though.

I'm what my dad refers to as a "bleeding-heart liberal", the democrats aren't liberal enough for me, but I usually vote democrat although I occasionally vote green party and I've even voted for a couple republican candidates. I'm registered as an independent, although I may register as a democrat next year just so I can vote in the primary because there are a few candidates that I feel very strongly about. DB claims to be a republican but he hardly ever votes, and just from his stance on a lot of issues he is more liberal than conservative (probably more than he cares to admit!)

I'm a liberal but I vote according to the issues and my beliefs, so while I mainly vote Democrat, I have voted Republican on a few things.
