I thought that my husband and I would be able to talk about our three "picks" for our first post...but now I hear that he's probably already had to put in his top three choices:sigh

he'll probably have some sort of school afterwards, and toward the end of the school is when they choose.

i could be way off though. i'm navy. :lol

but when my dh graduated boot camp, he was stationed where ever his school was, then towards the end of it, we had to choose where to go.

They will stick them where they need them. That is what the AF is like. DH picked southern bases and got North Dakota. Trust me...sometimes you just don't get a choice in the matter.

The army sends you where they want you, and sometimes they go off your dream sheet. We've never gotten one of our top 3 choices.

We never got a choice while DH was at OSUT. They just gave him his orders and said hope you like the Texas heat.

He most likely won't have definitive orders to a duty station until part-way through his AIT training (unless things have changed???). And, as others have pointed out, please keep in mind that a "wish list" is just that - when it comes down to it, the needs of the ARMY will outweigh the desires of the soldier/family.

in BCT you don't have a lot of time to hem and haw for your dream sheet, sometimes they will just say here fill this out and give it back. when dh was in BCT ( Navy) he had overseas for all his picks and they sent him to WA. like everyone said, they send you where they need you.. sometimes there happens to be an opening from your dream sheet, hardly ever but it has been known to happen.

Moral of the story - hope for the best but be prepared for the worst :D

DH has been in the Navy 13 years and the orders we have now are the ONLY orders he has ever chosen. (and they were needing to be filled so it was a win win situation for everyone)

Yeah, they will send him where they need him. I didn't even know my husband when he was in BCT and he wanted somewhere like Washington cause he is from Oregon, but he got Texas and met me. lol.

he'll have the chance to fill out a "dream sheet" (navy does) but that doesn't guarantee crap

We just found this out, just because you make a dream sheet doesn't mean you will get those locations... you are actually put where you are needed

yep, it is "considered" but they will put you where they need you.

DH got lucky and got his top pick which was the closest to our family...but good luck and I hope that u guys go somewhere u want!
