Hello, everyone. :)
Firstly, I think I'm posting this question in the right sub-forum. If not, please let me know!

My husband, son and I are stationed here in Baumholder, Germany. My son just turned 2 years old about a month ago. On his second birthday, he was diagnosed with moderate/severe autism. A few months before his actual diagnosis, we enrolled him in the EDIS program, where he began recieving 1 hour of therapy a week. After he saw the Psychiatrist/Psychologist (I can't remember which one he was:oops) and recieved a diagnosis, I thought he would get more hours of therapy. Apparently, though, our base is very short staffed, and he is still only getting one hour of therapy a week, despite the fact that he is still regressing, not responding to his therapist, and getting worse.:sigh

My husband and I realize that he is not going to get the help he needs here on this base. His therapist and the doctor who diagnosed him agree that he desperately needs more help, and they wrote a letter suggesting we recieve a "Compassionate Reassignment" back to the states so my some can get therapy. However, we turned in all the paperwork a few weeks ago...and we haven't heard anything back yet.

Has anyone heard of/done one of these compassionate reassignments before? I feel like the longer we're here and not recieving adequate therapy, the more my son is regressing. :( I am worried that it will take to long too recieve the reassignment. Does anyone know how long they usually take? Also, his therapist mentioned that these reassignments are very rare and difficult to get. Does anyone know if this is true? :confuzzleI'm so ready to move off of this base and get my son help.

Anyway, sorry this is so long, and thanks for any info you have!! I really appreciate it! :)

I've heard of it, but I don't know much more about that. can the therapist give you exercises, etc to do with your son at home while you are waiting to help keep him from regressing? Can you go to Landstuhl to get more treatment?

Hi, and thanks so much for your quick response. :)

The therapist has given me some excersizes to do, and Jaxon and I do those each day. I'm also trying to make him a PECs card system and work on sign language with him. But I really worry that I'm not doing enough, because he doesn't respond well to me or the therapist at all when we do these activities, and I'm really really new to the world of autism. A few months ago, I didn't even know what it was.

We had a lady from Landstuhl come visit him once, and she too said he is on the more severe end of the spectrum and gave me some tips/things to try with him. We can't see her on a regular basis though, because I can't get to Landstuhl while my husband is at work.

I'm hoping and praying and counting on this compassionate reassignment, to be honest. If not, I'll probably move back to the states w/o my husband to get Jaxon help, but that would be so hard on my marriage and husband.

Thanks again for your quick reply!:)
