So Rhyann should be home in a few days and last night everyone in the house got a sore throat and runny nose. Is there anything I can take safely since Im breastfeeding?? Id really hate to bring her home while everyone is sick!

I would think anything you could take pregnant you could take breastfeeding.

I was thinking that also, but just wanted to make sure. I have heard though that some meds dont go through the placenta while pregnant, but everything is in the breastmilk!

Call your dr and ask. most everything you took when you were pregnant will be ok. Remember, your BM will keep the baby healthy also. Helps the defense system out.

I would call your doctor or even her pediatrician. My doc sometimes seems dumb so I always call my daughters doc just to make sure.

I'm not sure what is really "safe" while breastfeeding. But I did want to say something: My hubby, Johnny, and I are all sick right now (I'm not sure what it is but I feel like a truck keeps running over me and I just wish it would finish the job). I'm still breastfeeding Evan and he has not gotten sick. I would think that the breastmilk would help keep her from getting sick but just to be safe I would make sure everyone washes their hands and doesn't cough/sneeze on her near her (ya know how small kids don't always know to cover their mouths and such). And since she is a preemie def. talk with her ped. Good Luck. Also Congrats on being able to bring her home soon!!!!!! That is great. :cp

I was told that there are only about 3 medications (in total) that you would definitely NOT be able to breastfeed while taking. But I felt uneasy about that (my obgyn told me that). But if you are worried, ask the doc.

Thanks ladies, we called the pediatrician and she told us to just take over the counter stuff and wash our hands like crazy!! She did say the baby should be fine since the breast milk has the antibodies in it!!
