I was pumping tonight and from one side the milk came out pink. Im going to assume its blood, but my nipples are not cracked or dry or anything. Should I keep it?? If I was actually breastfeeding Rhyann she would drink it anyways right?? DH called the hospital and the nurse acted like she had never heard of it before so she didnt know what to tell is. Is this normal? Should I dump it??

Its probably just a little tiny bit of blood, no biggie IMO.

Could have been something you ate. ;) I would not worry. When I took vitamins and pumped my milk came out YELLOW. :shock

Thats good to know, my mom and DH started freaking out and I was like, well if she was on the boob we would have never known it was pink!! I didnt think it was a big deal but they did. So I thought I would ask....

I would not worry, it could be something you ate/drank. You could always call the OB tomorrow and ask if you are worried or to ease yourr mom & dh's mind. ((HUGS))

that happened to me and the nurses told me it was fine to give it to the boys :) (I was nursing the twins)

I wouldn't be too concerned, I'd have to agree w/ what Kat said. If it doesn't return to normal in a day or so, I'd call back and actually see if I could talk to a lactation specialist about it.

LOL I told my mom that also, Ive had a strawberry frap from Starbucks everyday this week!!! :giggle

It did go back to normal after that one pumping....kinda wierd!!

Even if it was blood (I'm assuming it was), it's still okay to give them. I was really concerned when I nursed hunter b/c my nipples were cracked to the point of almost gushing blood every time I nursed. All of the lactation nurses kept telling me to keep nursing and the blood wouldn't hurt him. So, :dunno I assume it's perfectly fine.
