View Full Version : I never understood why they call Murphy Canyon
Brandi 09-07-2007, 04:16 PM "ant hill" until now :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead
These things are flippin everywhere! Coming in from under our doors, through our outlets in the walls, between the seals on the windows, through the tiles and baseboards.... this is flippin ridiculous! Does it ever get better or am I going to have to deal with this the entire time we live here? I was just in the kitchen making breakfast at like 7am with no sign of ants. Then I go back in there two hours later and there are HUNDREDS all in my sink, all over my counter tops, all over my kitchen floors. I started freaking b/c I had no clue where they came from. Then after killing them all, I found that they were coming through our kitchen window (which was CLOSED) and kitchen outlet :banghead :banghead
I've been spraying so I hope it will help soon but this is truly ridiculous. There are swarms of them and they are infesting my house :censored
piggypunkinetta 09-07-2007, 04:19 PM It is that time of year. It gets better once it starts to cool down.
froglove 09-07-2007, 04:20 PM Ya its because its warm outside. Keep using that spray I gave you. Spray around the outlets, windows, doors.
I do hope that it helps you!!
Once it cools down it will get better.
piggypunkinetta 09-07-2007, 04:22 PM Also spray around any water sources, that is what the Terminex man told me last year.
CoffeeGirl 09-07-2007, 05:01 PM oh no:arg-I'm sorry sweety-That is so frustrating!

I_love_my_Sailor 09-07-2007, 05:26 PM if you are able to spray along the base of the house outside... over at home depot they have something that is really good... i just wish i could think of the name cause i am going through the same thing
RockstarMom 09-07-2007, 05:31 PM Call exterminating to come out and spray EVERYWHERE! I could have swore I told you that you would have needed to call them to come spray right after you moved in. :puzz Sorry if I didn't. Moving into the house will stir it all up. Especially if your kids are playing in the yard or if (which you don't) have pets. Have them come spray inside and out, then call again to have them respray the following week outside. I'd do it for 4 weeks straight. That's what I had to do here. It's annoying, but you can get them under control.
Which reminds me. I have to have exterminating come spray outside after I mow my grass.
Jenny_J 09-07-2007, 05:37 PM YUCK. We were thinking about getting housing at Murphy Canyon!
Brandi, we had the same issue when we moved in there. I sprinkled baby powder around the perimeter of our house, on window sills, etc. I don't know why but they won't cross over it. Plus you don't have to worry if the kids get it on them cause it's just powder. Still call maintenance and have them come spray, but in the meantime- the powder works too.
MelissaMc424 09-07-2007, 06:42 PM We had ants in July.. they suck! According to our maintenance guy almost all of SD is an ant hill!
Just thought I'd tell ya, they hate windex... that's what I used to kill them when they were on my countertops..

:yes Just make sure it's not the Ammonia-free one! It's actually the ammonia that does the trick. ;)
Here's a link for you on tips! :) http://www.thefrugallife.com/ants.html
Heather 09-07-2007, 06:56 PM Knock on wood. I havn't had a problem with them yet. Last year it was bad when moved in. They were everywhere. All over the house. The spray they used worked really well.
Chevy_Gurl 09-07-2007, 07:28 PM There is also this white powdery stick you can get at the asian markets. trace your windowsills, doorways, etc and the ants wont cross it. It's the :quote magic white stick :quote

We had them pretty bad in the kids bathroom. But my neighbor had them SO bad they were just like what you described! It was AWEFUL!
Call the maintenance number, and they will schedule to come spray, I haven't seen any in quite a while. You can fight them off with windex and simple green until they come spray (it wipes away their scent trail, they follow each other by scent) Also, CH put a TON of ant traps outside, I read that they work great, and I am guessing we have the proof.
Good luck! And, uh, welcome to MCH! LOL :) I am in MCH, and I so far like it, other than the annoying kids who roam over and start trouble from other streets, and then their passive aggressive parents come and start trouble too.

Mommy960003 09-10-2007, 07:08 PM Also spray around any water sources, that is what the Terminex man told me last year.
OH! Yeah, and keep everything as dry as you can! They are attracted to water! (as well as other things, but the water is key for them)
Mommy960003 09-10-2007, 07:10 PM yea, its bad in spring and fall. but fall is the worst. Gabe forgot to empty the tub last night. yea, the kids' bathroom was swarming with ants.
Uh oh Gabe! hahahahaha! :lmao Mine tend to splash the floor, til it looks like a wading pool! :eek So I don't allow Jillian and Leesie to bathe together anymore! :vent They know when mom comes in with the mop, it's not a good thing!
NavySweetheart 09-10-2007, 11:11 PM MC provides weekly house spraying if you request it. I haven't done it because I don't have any bug problems (KNOCK ON WOOD) but I read the whole welcome packet and it said that. So just call the office and request for a weekly spray at your house. I think it said either every monday, weds, or friday is your options.
