This is gonna sound SO dumb... Here in Minnesota, when you go out to a restraunt and order sweet tea, the waitress gives you a retarded look, and says, "You mean iced tea?" :sigh, no, not iced tea, SWEET tea...

It's unheard of up here. You can't get it at a restraunt..:sadeyes

DH and I have both spent some time in the south, and he fell in love with it. I love it too... I've tried to make it here at home, but it's just not the same.. I'd like to make some for MIL and FIL's 40th anniversary tomorrow for DH cuz he's sick..

Anybody have a really good recipe? I don't have a tea brewing machine, or even a coffee pot, I'd have to make it on the stove, I'd like to make at least a gallon..

:help

I know, so dumb. In IL they didn't even have unsweet. It was that Lipton from the soda machine.:sick I have a machine but I do it on the stove as well. For 1 gallon I do about 5 Lipton teabags(depending on how strong you like the tea) and add about a cup or so of water and either 1 cup os sugar, equal or splenda. bring it to a boil and let it sit for a few. Put it in your jug add water and ice and you are done. Easy!

Well for me... I only use Luzianne Tea Bags. I typically get the family size bags and I drop 5-6 in a pot of cold water and bring to a boil on the stove. As soon as it boils I remove it from the heat and pour into a gallon pitcher. The pot I use fills it up about 3/4 of the way. I have no idea how much sugar I put in... I use a tin tumbler to scoop it out. If I had to guess... it's probably around a cup and a half. For starters I'd use around a cup then increase depending on your taste. I stir it into the tea for a minute or so until dissolved. I fill the rest of pitcher up with tap water or ice cubes and sometimes a combination of both and let it sit for an hour or so to cool. I drink it on ice.

It's not really a recipe, but I grew up making it that way. I get a lot of compliments on it though :) It's extra tasty with a lemon or orange wedge!

I'm from alabama and when I moved up to mass I was upset that they didn't know what the hell sweet tea was. I make mine on the stove and me and the kids go through about a gallon every 2 day.
Get you some Orange Pekoe Tea bags thats what everyone uses in the south. Put a small pot of water on the stove to boil. when it comes to a boil depending on the size of your tea bags quart size you'll use 3 cup size you'll use about 7. Turn the water off and put the tea bags in let it sit for about 5 mins. Mean while put a cup of suger in a one gallon picther. Take the tea bags out of the water pore it in the picher with the suger and stur it up then fill the rest of the picther up with cold water. Thats it good ole sweet tea. Hope that helps.

And for southern girls in San Diego... They serve brewed sweet tea in all the Chick-fil-a's there. That's the only place I know of in CA that serves "real" sweet :yes

Make the tea from boiling water, steep the bags for about 4 mins or so, if you steep it too long it will get bitter. Add a pinch of salt if it gets bitter.

Add the sugar in the amount you like while it is still hot to dissolve it. Taste it to see if you have enough sugar. Fairly simple once you know about how much sugar you like.

LOL when we went to North Dakota they had no idea about sweet tea either.

When I was on my sweet tea kick, I'd take the loose tea and put it in the coffee pot (make it like coffee). When it was done, I'd add splenda then let it cool to room temp then put it in the fridge.

I boil water, I dont know how much ..about as much as I do for pasta lol Then I put a cup of sugar or maybe a little more.. in the boiling water and let it dissolve then pour in a pitcher then add tea bags but only until it turns the right color. I use Luzianne Tea Bags and about 6 of them.

I have a big 2 qt pitcher that I make my tea in. I boil a kettle of water on the stove and steep 4-5 tea bags in the pitcher for 5-10 minutes. If you add a pinch of baking soda to it, it will not get bitter (this is how my Granny makes it YUM!) Add anywhere from 1cup to 2 cups of sugar depending on how sweet you want it. We use about a cup and a half.

Then ice it down!! We keep ours in the fridge once it's cooled a little bit and of course the last glass of the pitcher is always the best because the sugar is the most concentrated and the tea is the strongest! LOL!!

My mom makes the best sweet tea :P. She will take the lipton tea bags and put them in boiling hot water (using a big pot). Afterwards, she puts in a lot of sugar(to taste) and makes it just right ;). Perfect southern sweet tea :)

Hmm, that sucks! You could drop a tea bag in a mug of water and pop it in the microwave for 3-4 minutes and pour that in with the batch you already have. That'd probably make it more drinkable...

Wanna know the best???
SUN TEA!!!!:yes:grin::grin:
Get a clear or semi clear pitcher(gal is the best) fill it with water and put in yoru tea bags to taste(I sue either 2 family size or 8 regular), sit it outside where the sun can hit or in a window that gets several hours of sun. I usually leave mine out for about 2 hours....once it's done take the tea bags out, but don't press them because it will make it bitter tasting, and then add your sugar...about a cup maybe a little more. I'm telling you, it's the best!!!:yes

I grew up in Georgia and had sweet tea in the fridge every single day of my life. That is pretty much ALL we ever drank. My mom always used a coffee maker and brewed it that way......and that is how I do it to this day. I pretty much keep it in the fridge but don't love it as much as I did growing up. I realized after growing up and moving out that my mother puts WAY to much sugar in the tea. It's almost thick when it's poured and literally gags me now when I go back home. I never add more than 1 cup per gallon, or it is just gross to me:pukey

I just fill up the coffee pot full of water.......use about 8 regular tea bags (or 3 family size ones).......only tetley or luzianne. Lipton is disgusting to me. I will use the store brand bags over Lipton any day:pukey I brew it through and then pour the hot tea over a cup of sugar in the gallon jug...........mix that well.........fill the rest of the way with water. I grew up in the south and have never made it on the stove. My grandmother did it that way and it tasted exactly the same. Just don't use the coffee pot for actual coffee......I have one for tea only!

* I get raves about my tea from just about anyone who drinks it...DH used to take it to work and the guys went through more than a gallon a day.

I use the Iced Tea pot (by mr. coffee), but your coffee pot will work too, (just rinse everything very well) 5 of the small lipton tea bags, 1 1/3 cups of sugar per pitcher. brew the tea with the premeasured amount of water (if you're using the coffee pot, fill the carafe all the way to the top) Add the sugar while the tea's still hot so that it dissolves easily. I also do not ice it until it goes into the glass. I can't stand watered down tea.

That drove me absolutely nuts when I lived in Texas and Alaska. And when I go to visit my family in Connecticut. And I like my tea sweet, so I'd use, like, 10 sugar packets per glass. The waitresses would be looking at me like was an absolute nut-case when I kept asking for more sugar. lol

I always tell everyone "I like a little iced tea in my sugar." :D

If you add a couple of green tea bags to your brew it will add some natural sweetness and some lightness. I don't like alot of sugar so I love this brew and everyone around here loves my tea! Plus if you are a sweet tea addict, this will be a little more calorie friendly.

This native GA peach will never use a brewing machine.
Bags in boiling water is how its made.
I think a cup of sugar per gallon is how we make it.
i can never remember if its one or two.
You can always test it and add more.

HAHAHAHA in the opposite corner, Being from NJ, when we first moved to NC my mom ordered tea with her breakfast, (like hot tea), and she got a sweet tea and was like WTF?!? haha, then became terribly addicted and had to ween herself off of it because of its crack like tendencies! haha I never liked it, it hurts my teeth! haha

I usually just put 6 regular sized tea bags in a bowl and cover with water, microwave for about 2-3 minutes. You can boil them on the stove top. Either way.

Afterwards, I use a gallon pitcher. 1 and 1/2 cups of sugar. Strain the tea into the pitcher. (I run water over the bags a few times and strain, just to get all that tea out, lol) then add water to the top. Stir.

Question on the other side of this. Does anyone know how to make some good iced tea? I'm in the south and was born and raised in the north. We have iced tea where I'm from. Normally, I buy a bunch and stock up as much as possible when we go visit, but, I'm out.

How do I make it??
