My fiancé might get stationed in San Diego once he is done with the USNA. We plan to live on base so I just wanted to get some impressions and experiences on officer housing on base. How long is the waiting list and how is the housing? Are dogs allowed? All that good stuff. I need all the info I can get!

Thanks

the only base you can live on I believe is Miramar. Pets are only allowed at Murphy Canyon (off base housing). The wait depends on which community you decide to move to :) Good luck

Most housing is OFF BASE. Here's the housing website. You'll be able to figure out what you need from that.

I'm sure you know this but I wanted to let you know that until your SO graduates, nothing is in stone. You might want to not get your hopes up about a certain area. One day it might be Norfolk (like you said in another thread of yours) and one day it might be somewhere else. I'm not trying to be rude, just giving you some insight of a spouse who's been in a couple years!

I'm not getting my hopes up because I really don't mind where we will end up...it's just that I know about Norfolk and the other possibilities but nothing about the San Diego area! Thank you anyway!

:yes it can definitely change quite a bit. My husband has stayed in contact with some people from USNA and their orders haven't really been determined until around graduation. So, it's something that can definitely change.

As far as housing, most of it is off base housing. We're in Murphy Canyon and there is officer housing here, across the road from us. It is in a nice little area, the units are single family units with yards, they should all have central a/c soon, dogs and cats are allowed. Not sure where else there is officer housing but I believe this is the biggest area.

MC or Miramar are pretty much it for officer housing from what I've seen.. here's the Sept. wait list: http://www.cnrswhousing.navy.mil/mfh/waittime.htm
