View Full Version : I Failed AGAIN
Mommy2Bailey 09-13-2007, 03:41 PM I called to get my results. The receptionist lady couldnt tell me anything other than you failed and need to make an appointment to see your doctor and talk about it.So I go Monday at 3 to see my dr. This is gonna be NO fun.
What should I expect from this? I know a few of you have been through this before
Brandi 09-13-2007, 03:44 PM Usually, diet modification is enough to keep things under control. They'll probably give you a week to change your diet and get your sugars under control. If you can't, they'll look at giving you an oral supplement or self injections of insulin.
You'll have to test your blood sugars daily... usually 3 times, sometimes 4. You'll need to test in the morning before you eat, then an hour or two after you eat each meal.
I answered a lot of questions when callie found out she had gestational diabetes, if you want to go back through the ttc/preg section and find that post. It was a few pages long.
Callie 09-13-2007, 04:15 PM I had it. All I had to do was go to a diabetic class and learn how to modify my diet. It really wasn't bad at all. If you need anything let me know.
Ellen 09-13-2007, 04:26 PM I got tested weekly, and modified my diet. Eliminated pasta and breads.....fruits.....sugars....
Mine started off with trying to do the diet.
Then the pills.
Then it went to the shots :(
It really wasnt HORRIBLE, and it didnt do anything to the baby THANK GOD!
If she was born on time Im sure she would have been big though. After she was born and they did her test it was PERFECT. And so was mine :D :woohoo
Oh yeah, the only that SUCKED was sticking your finger 3 times a day. That SUCKS!
Mommy2Bailey 09-13-2007, 05:47 PM Well I already have the glucose monitor so I am set with that. Just have to get some more testing strips. I guess I will wait and see what the doctor says on Monday. Will they monitor the baby more closely for the rest of the pregnancy?
Callie 09-13-2007, 05:53 PM I had to test 4 times a day. DD was perfectly fine when she was born. They will monitor you a little more closely now, and you may get the biophyiscal u/s towards the end of your pregnancy. I had one from 36 weeks on.
Mommy2Bailey 09-13-2007, 05:54 PM Well at least I will get to see her again before she is born. I might go ahead and start testing this weekend so I can get in the habit of it.
Callie 09-13-2007, 05:56 PM They say that if you fast all night, then your levels should be under 100 , and two hours after you have eaten then they should be under 120. Good luck. (I didn't know if you knew that or not)
oh I had the gestational diabetes too and I tried to control it by diet but apparently it wasnt enough so I ended up having to do the shots. they just had me make have monthly appointments I believe. it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. it doesnt harm the baby either if you have to get the shots and even if you dont have to get the shots and just modify your diet the baby should be just fine too.

i didnt know what the numbers were suppossed to be. Thanks! i am guessing I will get a crap load of info Monday
HEIDI 09-13-2007, 06:05 PM lissa, one of the biggest issues with diabetes is CARBS. Carbs are sugars. Try to cut back on them as much as possible while your waiting to see your dr.

What exactly is a carb? I know breads and such. I only eat wheat bread. And not a whole lot of it either.
what how much rice and potatoes you eat and all the sweet stuff too. If they are gonna have you try to modify your diet they will give you a sheet with the things you can eat.
Mommy2Bailey 09-13-2007, 06:10 PM I dont eat a lot of rice or potatoes. I do love my fresh fruit though. I dont know how this happened. I dont have a bad diet.
HEIDI 09-13-2007, 06:14 PM Fresh fruit such oranges have a lot of concentrated sugars, but eating an orange is better than drinking a glass of oj.... You have watch the "white" foods, pastas, rice & breads

yep. Heidi is right fruit juices are a no no. If you ate whole grain breads and rice and pasta or something to where it wouldnt affect your glycemic (sp) index then you should be okay.
*Dawn* 09-13-2007, 06:22 PM Your going to find you can't eat your fresh fruit like you want to...your numbers will go sky high! Even though they have natural sugars in them they will through your sugar levals way off. Stay away from juices, those are a big NO-NO....Not only did I have GD I'm not a diabetic from having GD so I live with this on a daily basis now.
taraw226 09-13-2007, 06:25 PM i had gestational diabetes the last 6 weeks with my oldest DD. i saw a dietician, had to go on insulin, and test my blood sugar 4x a day. also, i didn't get a chance to read the other replies so i don't know if it was mentioned, but you may have to go see your doc more often for non-stress tests and the baby may have to have their blood sugar checked every hour or so for the first day or two. feel free to PM me if you need anything :hugehug
Brandi 09-13-2007, 06:57 PM most fruits will send your sugars soaring, and any empty carbs like pastas, rice and potatoes will convert right into sugar as they digest. If you're going to eat pastas, try to go for whole wheat. You can still have some carbs and sugar, just in small amounts and spaced out. Juices should be completely cut out, except for veggie juice. But fruit juice is pretty bad for your blood sugar.
Callie 09-13-2007, 08:39 PM 15 grams of carbohydrates equals 1 carb. If you look on the nutrition labels you will see carbohydrates. Stay away from rice and potatoes, and juice. For example for breakfast I would make 2 pieces of bacon, eggs, and toast with cream cheese and sugar free strawberry jam. You are going to be suprised at what you can eat. half of the time I couldn't eat all that they had on the "diet" because it was just too much lol!
Kiser'sBabe 09-13-2007, 08:50 PM I'm sorry girl, that just sucks.
