My husband put his name on the list for voluntary deployment. In a way I am very proud of him, but the selfish part of me wishes he would stay stateside (well at least until his unit is deployed next november). I guess all we can do now is weight. He told me that it works much like a lottery on who gets picked. I know that he really wants to go and he won't be happy if he stay here. He is sick of not doing anything. Today, his unit mowed and pulled weeds all day. So I guess, wish us luck that he gets picked soon!

Mine does that as well. Part of me does not understand but the other half does. As soon as the call for AO's in Iraq he says he is going. Great.

Yeah, I understand. My boyfriend is trying to get deployed too. I don't want him to, but I want the best for him and this is.
So, I get how hard it is. Good luck.

aww dh volunteered too because he would have gone a few moths before xmas if he didnt (he would have missed all of our sons firsts instead of just a few) and he also told them to send him before our friend she wants to have a baby but she keeps getting deployed and it was the same thing for me i didnt know how to feel about it. i did know i was proud of him though make sure he knows you are it will make him feel better..esp if things are hard on you when hes gone..i've had some rough times and rick starts to feel like shit cuz he volunteered to go you just gotta repeat it to them you are a brave man and im so proud of you...good luck sweetie!

My husband did the same thing. I understand though...it's like if he waits for his original deployment he will be in the dark for the next few months. If you volunteer than at least you will know more or less whats going on. I look at it this way...the sooner he goes, the sooner he GETS BACK HOME TO ME!!!! don't worry hun...he'll be okay. get ready to send him tons of stuff...stock up on stationary!!! lol. my husband leaves on friday:(

I know it makes it harder when he goes, but I can see his side. That's what he joined for. HE wants to be over there and helping and protecting you(and the rest of the country). So sitting around mowing lawns and pulling weeds has to frustrate him. I could see why he would want to volunteer. Now's time to play the wonderful role of Army Wife and pretend it doesn't bother you and support him as much as possible

DF almost didn't deploy because of a cyst on his wrist...when everyone found that out, they said "i bet you hope he doesn't pass the medical exam" and truthfully, as much as I would have liked him to stay here, I was praying that he passed. I know he would have been super upset if he couldn't deploy with his unit. So I know how you feel!!! Good for you for supporting him and good luck to him on getting picked! :)

My husband has always said, its better to pick rather than it be picked for you. I dont know if thats true, for me anyhow. :sigh

Yeah, what I can't believe is that I'm really hoping my DB goes. Crossing my fingers, praying, that he gets deployed soon because he wants to be..........

My fiance is a volunteerer also. Drove me insane at first. Now, I understand. Going to Iraq is what he wants more than anything. Strange to civilians, but that's what makes him a military man.
