why are they called "german shepherd dogs"? why not just "german shephed? why do they add dog?

Because in some countries they translate that way...Im guessing, I never thought about it, I just call them GSD's

I've only ever known them as German shepherds. :dunno

dh tried to tell me it's so whoever you're talking to knows you're talking about the dog, and not about a guy who lives in germany and tends to a flock of sheep. :rolleyes he's kinda stupid. :giggle
