usually when you enroll the baby in tricare ( which you have to do btw she will only be covered for 60 days under you.) you can request her PCM be a ped.

With tricare that's not really an option. You'll put the baby on DEERS, take the page 2 to TRICARE and they'll tell you if you're assigned to a base dr. or if you get to choose a civie.

I should mention that is if there is one at your hospital and they aren't all maxed out on patients. ( which happened to me a few times in whidbey.

Yep! DD HAD to be seen at the clinic on base (I could have chosen to switch after her first few appointments but I never did) and saw a Ped. when they had one at the clinic. We went through 3 peds. in 2 years.

She sees a civie now, and her dr. is WONDERFUL!

okay thanks ladies. that's what i figured we'd have to wait to add her to DEERS and then get her assigned someone.

I'm not sure how tricare works with a military doctor, but I chose from a list (I have standard) I set up a pre-baby appointment to make sure that I liked the doctor and made a list of all questions that I wanted to ask, like do you have appointments if I need to see you that day or if my dd is sick on the weekends will there be someone here to see her? How long does it normally take for a nurse to get back to me when I call or will I talk to a nurse immediately. Just questions like that.

They will set up your first appointment for her one week apt. with whatever dr is free...then your DH fills out the deer and registers her with Tricare..they will ask you where or who you would like but you might not get them. Then they will give you whomever has room, and if you want to change to a women or don't like that dr etc you can see whomever you like as long as they are in the same office as her PCM. Like if you are at peds. then you can see any dr at peds. but you can't go to family practice if her pcm isn't there. make sense? :lol it is weird.

Tricare won't let you pick they will just assign a pedi to you. In the real world you get to pick who you want out of your insurance coverage area and you can interview them picking who you like the best.

They might..it depends on if the dr has opening or not..when you go to the tricare office to get your paperwork done you can tell them who you would prefer and they will put it down and if that dr is accepting new patients then you will most likely get them.
