Change of clothes for him, 6 diapers in a diaper case, travel case for wipes, extra bottles, burp rags, grocery bag for dirty diapers/wipes in case, toys/teething toys, pacis (he never was a paci fan), and random other stuff PLUS my purse. Then I realized I could get away with a smaller diaper bag with way less. Couple diapers, wipes case, my stuff, his toys Now I have a purse and carry just a small pack of wipes, one diaper, and his sippy and a toy in addition to my wallet, makeup bag, pen&paper, and cell. I also have an extra bag in the car with a change of clothes in it for him, a jacket, extra diapers, and a couple pediasures and a sippy, and some granola bars. That's my in case of emergency bag. Came in handy when the effing alternator quit working and stranded us until a tow truck got there hours later. DakotaCowgirl 09-19-2007, 03:36 PM When you have your first child, you want the cute bage that looks like a suitcase..then you realize that the small one that carries everything you need in small amounts is the best. We use the backpack carrier bag. Looks like a backpack and has enough room for his diapers and my wallet. Bex 09-19-2007, 03:37 PM at first i wanted the one you have on your registry, then realized i didn't want to lug something that big around... so i chose this one: http://trus.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pTRU1-3297214reg.jpg i think it's too big so i'll be downsizing soon :) harrisonsdream 09-19-2007, 03:39 PM http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2266809&cp=&sr=1&f=Taxonomy%2FTRUS%2F2255957&origkw=out+and+about&kw=out+and+about&parentPage=search that's the one i have on the registry. i wouldn't carry a purse with it though. my aunt has the same one. she loves it. i'm thinking maybe a backpack style though the more i think about it Callie 09-19-2007, 03:42 PM I put diapers around (6 or so) and changing pads Wipes change of clothes small things in the side pocket I usually take about 2- 3 bottles depending on how long I think that I will be gone. Now I have started taking a thing or two of baby food and a spoon. I also take a bottle of water so that I can fill up her bottles when she needs them. I make them with just powder and just add water. ashleykaymay 09-19-2007, 03:43 PM i used to cart everything around formula cans, bottles each with the water premeasured, pacis, box of wipes, diapers, and my stuff! now i carry one of my purses and i put like three or four diapers in it, one bottle that i clean out, a bottle of water that i can drink out of and pour his water from, a few pacis, a sandwich baggie with wipes...and my fav :drumroll... munchkin sells this lil formula dispenser that you premeasure your formula into and then you just pour it in it holds 3 bottles worth of formula! love it! you can find it at target...its so much easier! MIKOSWIFEY 09-19-2007, 03:44 PM Once the baby gets older you don't need a large one at all. Depends on what you do though. If you're a SAHM and don't do many errands you don't need to tote much, if you drop your kid off at daycare they need their own bag I guess with all the things they might need during the day, if you run a lot of errands you'd probably want a smaller bag with immediate needs only and keep a larger more stocked one in the car. harrisonsdream 09-19-2007, 03:45 PM i'm thinking an "emergency" bag for the car the diaper bag if i get the one on my registry no purse but if i get a smaller one then my purse too Callie 09-19-2007, 03:47 PM At first I carried all of my purse stuff in the diaper bag. Just my wallet, keys, lipstick and phone, but I have JUST started carrying a purse again. loL! Casey 09-19-2007, 03:51 PM With me, I cant stand to have anything "free floating" So I registered for a cute little double bag (one big bag was like a doufal bag but without a zipper and the smaller one was the actual diaper bag) well, the diaper bag one was great! But the bigger bag I have never once used. I really never understood why it was there :dunno But I really liked the diaper bag. It has 3 netted compartments that I put my wipes, dipes, and jacket/hat/burp rag in. A big zipper pouch in the middle that I put WIC paperwork, shot record, and my wallet (if I am not taking my purse) in. Then 3 vynil compartments (that is waht the inside of the bag is lined with) that I put binkies, teething tablet, spoons, bibs, and whatever else in. Then, there is room in between both the pouch in the middle and both of the compartment sides that I put the bottles, formula divider, and snack in. It works great for us! We also used a backpack type diaper back for a while which was nice too, but it was a cheapy one and the liner ripped on the inside, so we tossed it and went back to our old one. :D HTH! Casey 09-19-2007, 03:52 PM i'm thinking an "emergency" bag for the car the diaper bag if i get the one on my registry no purse but if i get a smaller one then my purse too We never kept and emergency "bag" in the car. Just a small stash of emergency dipes and wipes in the center consule. And every time she would start to outgrow that size of diaper, I would switch them out for the next size up. Casey 09-19-2007, 03:57 PM I put diapers around (6 or so) and changing pads Wipes change of clothes small things in the side pocket I usually take about 2- 3 bottles depending on how long I think that I will be gone. Now I have started taking a thing or two of baby food and a spoon. I also take a bottle of water so that I can fill up her bottles when she needs them. I make them with just powder and just add water. You sound like me :lol I usually take about 3 diapers (our trips are never long anymore) my formula divider, a bottle filled with 8oz of water and I always have a couple water bottles in the truck with me in case i need to rinse and reuse a bottle if its an emergency (but like I said, our trips are never long anymore so half the time i dont even use the one I bring) and if we happen to be traveling around lunch or dinner time, I bring a couple of jars of baby food (I always keep a spoon with me, and she doesnt keep a bib on anymore) But other than that, I really dont take much :dunno Brandi 09-19-2007, 03:58 PM I have this one and LOVE it http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4200667 I also have one like this (in a different pattern)http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2401256&cp=2255957.2273443.2255976.2255980.2256159&cp=2255957.2273443.2255976.2255980&fbn=Brand+Name+Secondary%7CEddie+Bauer&f=PAD%2FBrand+Name+Secondary%2FEddie+Bauer&fbc=1&categoryId=2256159&parentPage=search for really long trips (when we traveled on the plane, long road trips, etc) but it is WAAAY too big to tote around every day. I have a hard time even fitting it under the stroller. The first one I posted is perfect though. Its got a side pocket for pacis, a side pocket for a bottle or two, plenty of room for a couple snacks, a change of clothes, a few diapers and wipes. I just stack it in there however it will fit, in no particular order :D Even with two in diapers, I refuse to carry around a huge tote b/c I've usually got Hunter in my arms and he's heavy enough without factoring in a big bag. So, I keep the stuff in the bag minimal but I ALWAYS have an emergency bag in the van with TWO changes of clothes PER CHILD, a full box of wipes, a few diapers, a mini first aid kit with bandaids and things of that nature, at least 5 or 6 snacks with a couple of juice boxes and a couple small bottles of water, light blanket, a heavy blanket and a towel :lol Yes, I know I have a lot of stuff but it's saved my ass a few times when the kids have puked all over themselves or had massive diaper blow outs. So, I'd rather keep the stuff there in case, than be stranded without it. It's not AS big of a deal here in SD but in Chicago, the weather could get NASTY and you'd be screwed if you ever got stuck some place without food, water or a change of clothes. harrisonsdream 09-19-2007, 04:01 PM thanks ladies. i guess now after really thinking of it i'm just getting more like were my original choices good choices? harrisonsdream 09-19-2007, 04:19 PM i changed my bag to this one: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/602-3623632-2059002?ie=UTF8&coliid=I1F54CEQSA4PR1&asin=B000058DNZ&colid=1PYWXU4TYSCWY&bckreg=lc MIKOSWIFEY 09-19-2007, 04:27 PM :tu I like it Jill. :) MelissaMc424 09-19-2007, 04:31 PM I started out with the big diaper bag, and by the time DD was 18 months old , it got downgraded to a little $6 Eastsport backpack that works great.. it came from walmart! It's got mesh side pockets that are perfect for bottle/sippy, a pocket big enough for a cell phone, keys, and a checkbook cover size wallet. I also fit a small thing of hand sanitizer and a spare hair tie in there. The big pocket is perfect for a travel wipe holder, about 4 diapers or pullups, and a spare change of clothes, with plenty of room for other stuff. http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g101/EN1MacsWifey/DSC00871.jpg dollface 09-19-2007, 04:41 PM I have these two diaper bags: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v369/dollface7376/greenbag.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v369/dollface7376/MYBROWNBAG.jpg I do a lot of travelling so I keep the diaper bag WELL stocked. Its organized in layers. I have bottles in a cooler on the right, 3 full outfits on the bottom layer, 2 sweaters and 2 hats next layer, about 10 diapers and a zip lock bag of wipes, bibs, diaper disposal bags on the next layer, mini powder/lotion/etc on the side, binkys in a little plastic case and a few toys loose on top. I pack like a weeks worth of stuff in that thing...lol... Ashnbri 09-19-2007, 05:06 PM here is mine..I got it at BRU...:lol it isn't really organized that much....the water bottle and baby bottles are on the sides..the formula case is inside in one of the circle compartments on the side..the change of clothes and burp cloth are at the bottom..the changing pad is folded up stuck on the side up and down like right next to the diapers and wipes. paperwork and all that are in the inside zipper area...and the cell, extra paci and wallet are in the outside zip compartment. A few of his toys are on top inside and his animal bracelet is attached to the strap. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b184/ashnbri/09-19-07_1700.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b184/ashnbri/09-19-07_1701.jpg Brandi 09-19-2007, 05:11 PM i changed my bag to this one: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/602-3623632-2059002?ie=UTF8&coliid=I1F54CEQSA4PR1&asin=B000058DNZ&colid=1PYWXU4TYSCWY&bckreg=lc I think you'll like having the small one a lot better. I've been through about 10 bags between the three of my kids and I can tell you that I always end up HATING the big ones and just leavng most of my "emergency" type stuff in a plastic bag in the car :lol So, my suggestion would be to definitely make a little emergency bag with your things like blankies and changes of clothes, then just use the diaper bag for the necessities that you have to have like food and diapers :yes Green~Mammy 09-19-2007, 10:11 PM I use a canvas bag and plastic baggies to seperate my stuff LOL. I use the big size to hold my wallet, cell phone, & change purse and a smaller one to hold my lip gloss, teething tablets, hand sanatizer, & lotion. Then the wipes are in another large plastic baggie. i8 have a wet bag to hold dirty diapers. I use cloth diapers and the regular diaper bags don't hold enough. Green~Mammy 09-19-2007, 10:13 PM i'm thinking an "emergency" bag for the car the diaper bag if i get the one on my registry no purse but if i get a smaller one then my purse too I don't like to carry more then one bag to much to keep track of. michellelac 09-19-2007, 10:27 PM Bottles with the powder formula Water in thermos Her meds toys waller diapers wipes change of clothes (extra shirt for me) KDMatthews 09-20-2007, 01:29 AM http://www.landsend.com/pp/DoItAllDiaperBag-53322_109422_-1.html?CM_MERCH=PAGE_53320 http://www.landsend.com/pp/LittleTripperDiaperBag-53322_89159_-1.html?CM_MERCH=ALT_53322 I have these two in red with our last name monagramed from my son....I love them both. The big one opens like a doctor bag. I will def use them again. Pheather 09-20-2007, 01:46 AM Right now I'm just using a book bag. It feels like I have been through a million diaper bags. The only one I loved was the free one from the hospital, but it broke! Mine have never been organized, I usually throw things in as I'm about to run out the door. |
