How did that work for him? Did they fly him right off the ship or did they make him wait for a port visit and he took a regular airplane?
Johns been told at a certain port they will give him a plane ticket and he can come home. I am scared to death they will make him pay for the ticket up front. I've asked him several times if we will have to pay for the ticket and then get reembursed and he says no because hes doing a chance of orders but will still be part of his ship and will check into a TPU once hes back in SD (:dunno)
Also he has no passport does anyone know if that might cause him problems or is AD military ID good enough?

I'd like to think he'd be fine. I have no experience with leaving the ship. I DO know that when Con was meeting up with the ship they paid for his ticket from VA to Bahrain.

That does give me some hope! Its on of those things that seems to good to be true. We fought SO hard for him to stay in. For him to be handed a ticket and told to go home when we need him home just seems unreal. It almost nice of the Navy.

Ryan flew home from the ship, which was in the Gulf at that point. A helicopter took him to another ship, and that ship ported, then he went to the airport and flew from Bahrain.
The Navy paid for the ticket for him, they gave him all the crap he needed a couple of days before.
Ryan says that if he has orders and his military ID, he should be okay, but he isn't 100% on that.
HTH. :)

:yes DH has...he flew to a country on one of his helicopters then he got on a plane at there airport..I picked him up at the airport. DH does not have a passport so I assume mil ID is fine. DH did not have to pay for the plane ticket..he didn't even have to pay for the ticket when they let him fly home from a work up early to make it for the birth..so I am pretty positive they won't let your SO pay for it.

it all depends on why hes flying off the ship. my husbands deployed right now and he gets to come home like a week and a half or so sooner than the rest of the guys. for one its cuz im having a baby and dont want him to miss the birth and for two, he signed up to do the homecoming committee stuff so he could get home sooner for sure. so hell have duty the night the rest of the guys get back and stuff too. its pretty sweet.
he does hafta pay for the ticket though. they were gonna either pay for it or pay for some cuz theres a group of them doing it but he already got the ticket and it was about 200 bucks. so i doubt they helped out with the price at all. thats from hawaii to arizona though.[there wasnt a straight flight to CA] but that works out anyway cuz im currently in AZ till he gets home and were gonna be driving both cars back to CA.

dh flew off the ship this last cruise, he was flown to Dubai, where he waited until a flight was available then flew commercial home. he didn't need a passport and flew into seatac directly. the pain part was he had to pay up front for his hotel for the night he was there.. once he gets his itinerary then his flight should be paid. When he gets to the airport he should have a ticket in hand.

My husband left deployment early on his 2nd deployment, and he flew off on a H-53 Helicopter that took off from the aircraft carrier, from the helo he went to Fujara (sp?), and then took a C-2 plane from there.

No he does NOT get to stay in. Sorry I guess it did kinda sound like that. Hes done with the Navy after all the crap they have put us through. :mumble We still have that little magic date on our calendar when we have no more home, pay or health care. They are letting him come home early so he can find a job. Otherwise his terminal leave starts 1 day before they get back.
I'm SO relieved to hear he shouldn't have to pay for it. He keeps telling me he wont but the Navy has a thing about screwing us.

John has left the ship twice during deployments. The first time he was flown off the ship and the second time they were at a port so they took him to an airport and flew him out of there. It took a good while, a few days, for him to get home even once he had left the ship/airport. He didn't have to pay for his ticket when he flew out of the airport or when he was flown off the ship itself, eventually he met up with a civi flight. Good Luck hun.
