Ok, so the kitten is being fixed right now. He is always trying to get outside, so now that he is fixed, should I let him? I would then be able to leave the doggie door in.

be honest please.

I say why not. if you want to make him an indoor/outdoor cat, he is your pet, go for it.

I don't know, what kind of area do you live in? Is it rural or are there lots of roads and traffic nearby?

It all depends on where you live.

i live in vegas but we are in a decent neighborhood.

the other cat goes out all the time.

I don't like locking him in all the time but I don't want an outdoor cat either.

It's a personal decision. There are definite risks to allowing him outside. He could be hit by a car, is likely to be involved in fights, may get into poisons/dangerous substances, is vunerable to animal attacks and also poses a nuisance to others (using flowerbeds as litterboxes, crawling on people's vehicles, etc). There is also the risk of him ending up either being "taken in" by someone or taken to a shelter (even if he is collared - after all, a "safe" cat collar is one that will come off if he gets caught up, etc) as a stray. On top of that there is the issue of leash laws. In many areas they apply to cats just as they do to dogs so, in addition to the risks listed above, you may also face those issues.

Personally, I'm not a big cat fan (not to mention they drive my indoor dog insane when they are in front of our house) so I get frustrated when our neighbors let theirs roam. They get in our yard and torture the dog and drive us all bananas.

I think it all depends. Your surroundings make a big difference. He's been an indoor cat for a while now though and that might affect his ability to defend himself. It all depends though. If you are comfortable with him being out then I would try it a few times and see how he does with you nearby.

I am sure that is terrible but I know how mch my cat enjoys his outdoor time. And no one has complained before and luckily she hates people so would run away before they got to her. most days i catch her laying in the grass in the backyard.

I am strongly against this..and the reason is because I saw what feline leukemia does and it is really sad. I also had my first cat growing up stolen by some weirdo. We also had a female who would always come home beaten up. I think there is too many bad things out there to let a family cat out and wonder free. Our cat loves going outside but we have a really tall privacy fence and she doesn't try to climb it.

i can't imagine my cat being taken in by someone else. that is why i worry about geppetto because he loves people. But then I worry that if he does get out he will get lost because hes never been out. I took him on the leash one day for a walk.

I've had both.

My sister's cat gets so angry if he's left locked in the house, he breaks through screens to go outside.

My two are indoor cats and will remain that way.
